Captains Log Questions
So I noticed in a pic that some one had, in the sinkings, it show what the name of each ship was as well as what cargo it was carrying and how many crew died. Id like to implement this into my game so what mod is it? This was in the in game captains log. danke all:salute:
Also: Is there a mod for real explosions as soon as torps hit ships?? Im getting tired of seeing the measly white water spray, I wanna see some kaboom when my torp hits. Generally I always aim for the boilers too. And where can I get the realistic smoke mod? |
SH3 Commander is the only way to get ship names, period.
After Commander has put the names and information into its own log, which can be seen as part of your personel file in Commander. After that you need to reboot SH3, using Commander, and then look at the log for that last patrol - the names will be there. There is nothing that makes names show up in the log while you're still on patrol. Sorry. |
Oh alright I thought that the pic I saw was during a patrol.
|
And the ever expanding list of ships' names are available fron the SH3 downloads page, with an eternal thanks to Steve for compiling such a list :yeah:
|
I just looked. And I know SH3 commander does the names, but the log that I saw (In game mind you) showed what cargo it was carrying, and how many crew that ship in particular lost. I havent seen this in the SH3 cmder logs?
|
In SH3 cmder logs it does show cargo and surviving crew of the ship.
|
If you're using the Merchant Fleet mod, SH Commander won't show names/cargo/casualty info for the new ships.

I've just always used Commander for all my patrol log needs, and when I'm done with the latest log there the info gets copy/pasted into a .doc file for that career and the new pages printed out. Then I use the printed logs or that .doc file for reference. About the only time I ever look at the log screens in the game is to view the current log during a patrol. I don't think I've ever gone into past patrol logs from the desk/office. |

Actually what comes next is a prolonged session of trying to decide who gets promoted, who gets what award, which men will be moving on to another assignment or going ashore for additional training, which goes on until I sweat out a satisfactory compromise between attempted realism and the desire to keep as much of my experieneced, familiar crew on board as possible. Between that and updating the logs, it can be a couple hours of post-patrol paperwork. And at the moment, I don't really add anything to the logs except notes on promotions, awards, and transfers. Beyond those additions it's strictly the info that's already provided for departure from base, ships sunk, and return to base. Regarding the separate .doc file for patrol logs, I only just realized a couple weeks ago that I could click on the links for "Patrol 1," "Patrol 2," etc. when I open my updated personnel file and get a similar printable file of the logs themselves. So next career I'll probably do all my editing and additions w/in the Commander interface for it and use that instead. And I'm also toying with the idea of keeping more extensive records from within the patrol itself, like notes on the weather, all contacts, notes on attacks made, etc. But I don't know. I tried that when I was first playing and soon got bogged down - but then I was still trying to remember how to find my way around in the game just to do the most basic of things. Now so much of the routine of "running the boat" has become just that, routine, when it comes to what to click and what key to press. So maybe I'll be able to keep a more detailed log without it seeming like such a hassle. |
Hmmm...he could well be right :hmmm:
|
well if SH3 Commander is supposed to show the crew lost of the sunk ship and cargo then its not showing it on mine:shifty: weird. Any ideas?

If you have 'Use Real Ship Names' selected in Commander, and you don't see any real ship info (including names) in the logs when you access them through Commander, then you may not have updated your Personnel File yet. After each patrol you must update your Personnel File before accessing your logs - that's what triggers Commander to flesh out the log files already created by the game with real ship data. If you are updating the Personnel File first, then looking at your logs, and see real ship names but no cargo/crew data... I got nothin'. I've never known Commander to put in the names and nothing else. |
