Can someone please explain how the assist W/O works
I finally am going to get some realism out of this game.. I am at 91% realism, the only thing I have is event cam ( I still like to see the ships and stuff go boom ) and assit weapons officer..
So, Its early 1941, I'm in my IXC and I see a lone merchant, I am finally playing dead is dead so I want to make sure I do things right.. I line up a perfect bow shot to the target, I set my depth and speed, 2 torps one slow one fast. I lock onto the target and then click the w/o and select, Identify target.. He does... I think.. Then the other options are to choose a target. closest merchant/warpship and just ship in general.. nothing seems to work.. It never comes up with a solution to the target I am locked onto.. I was under the impression that the W/O would do this for.. Unless I am doing something wrong.. BTW I am running GWX3 and MAGUI3 |
You have to order Weps to get you a solution. Click on the weapons officer's icon on the toolbar, and select 'Solution to target' (Should be the middle button)
Alternatively, if you use SetKeys you can map 'Solution to target' to a key. (and as a bonus you won't have to wait through the second or so delay between the time you give the order and the time he comes up with one) |
There is no Solution to target button.. Just identify target.. Which it just locks onto the middle of the ship.. BUt no solution, if I fire judging by the TDC screen accuracy it will miss by a mile.
THIS SUCKS :( |
On my ipad on my way to get "iron coffins" , i had to exit my patrol because i cannot hit anything :( .. I hope someone can come up with an answer soon.. I dont want to return to port with a full tank of fuel and torpedoes...

You're playing with targeting assistance on? Do you have the stock GUI? You should be able to lock onto a target, click on the WE's icon, then click on torpedo attack, then the solution to target. (middle button) :hmmm:
|
When looking through the periscope or UZO, clicking on the Weapons Officer icon should give you a list of choices, including Torpedo Attack. There should be three buttons that come up with that choice. The left one should be Identify Target, the middle one should be Torpedo Aiming Data, and the right one should be Launch Torpedo.
Torpedo Aiming Data puts the information on the Notepad, and transmits it to the TDC. If that isn't happening, the nearest thing I can figure is that the GUI you're using removes the notepad. If that's the case, the WE Assistance isn't available to you. |

I posted that im using magui3.. Im sure most of you use the same one |
Well I guess the magui3 doesn't have a "solution to target button"
So I downloaded the "set keys mod" and set the "solution to target" button to "T" So now I click the Identify ship button and then press the "T" button.. Works like a charm! I am 80 meters deep right now after sinking 2 ships in a medium size convoy.. Its not bad considering I am playing "dead is dead" now and trying to evade some DC's..... Playing this way really adds some excitement... I know I won't be able to just reload (well I can, but I won't) and it adds to the immersion factor! I wish there was a way though, to NOT allow me to load a game after I die.. I know its self discipline but its still going to be tempting to lose, lets say 5 successful patrols because of a stupid mistake.... That is if I survive now.. OK, wish me luck, alt-tabing back to the game :) |

May I ask why?? Just curious as the way mods go with this game, different is usually better... I think the new interface is great! and I don't even play manual targeting.. So why do you like the stock over the rest? Or are you just not into mods like this? |
Stock GWX is not the same as stock SH3. I myself am still with the stock GWX but am considering another GUI, as soon as I find one that suits me. I would appreciate having the TDC controls on the same screen as the scopes and UZO.

Gotcha! Well, remember this thread, because I have been mod hunting for a while now and when it comes to interfaces I have found the one I posted to be one of the best (magui3).. Its also the one most hardcore players use, but I've tried about 3 of them and they're all good, and all take a little to get used to.. Good luck bro! |
IIRC some of the GUI mods are designed specifically for manual targeting only. So the "controls" for any kind of assisted targeting are left out deliberately. Glad you could get yours to work though. :DL

MaGui 3.4 target set-up
Fastfed,
I'm in a similar position to what you describe. I've returned to SH3 after a considerable absence. I used to use OLC Gold Option 3, and had a "Check List" for Manual Targeting taken from OLC's video tutorials. After some repetitive training on my part, it worked. Many hits..!! I decided to upgrade my SH3 set-up after browsing the SH3 Mods Forum, and subsequently downloaded MaGui 3.4 as an alternative. In having a few trial runs via Naval Academy Convoy Attack and Happy Times Single Mission to become acquaint with MaGui, I find the markings on the Whiz Wheel have slightly changed from OLC. (ie 58 degrees was the red marker to indicate target speed). Therefore like you, I'm missing easy targets. :damn: Hopefully I set the TDC correctly, so I can only assume my calculations from the Attack Periscope Whiz Wheel must therefore be wrong. I'm currently searching for a tutorial on MaGui to find my error. There's a "Angriffsscheibe Handbuch", but that relates to the separate Attack Disc unit. I was intrigued by your "SET KEYS MOD" and if this might solve the problem, but that's I assume introducing Assisted Targeting which the MaGui is trying to get away from. However, I can't find the mod in SH3 Downloads or via the Forum Search Engine to investigate. Advice from any Kaluens on MaGui 3.4 Manual Targeting such as a Check List/Set of Instructions, or alternatively where the Set Keys Mod info is located and, if it would be appropriate, would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. |
@Harryt8
MaGui 3.4 includes an optional mod in its main directory (TorpedoSolutionButton for MaGui 3.4.rar) which restores W.O. assistance, so you don't need SetKeys to get this function. You have to unpack the rar and enable it separately through JSGME - - it works just as Weiss Pinguin described above. |
