After Playing Hearts of Iron 3, I say Silent Hunter 5 is great!
Sure you guys bash SH5. But in reality its not that bad!
First of all, the graphics are great. Not Crysis grade, but at least COD grade. The sounds sound decent, and the system requirements aren't that high. Imagine a game that has poor ai, even worse graphics, and miserable sound. Sure you guys complain about how ships crash in port and all that, but us Hearts of Iron players have to endure worse! Silent Hunter 5 players don't have to endure an interface that lies, graphics that look like their from 2002, and no multi core support! Hearts of Iron lags on everything, even xeon workstations with 32gbs of memory.:damn: Hearts of Iron is still in pretty bad shape after 4 patches, 1 expansion pack, and 1 patch for the expansion pack. Always remember, there is someone that got it worse than you somewhere. |
There's a lot of people here that don't bash SH5. There are also a lot of people here that enjoy HoI.
|
I did enjoy HoI2 and HoI3 a lot. 3 was a big step forward compared to 2 (interface wise at least). Sure the game is far from perfect, but (quite like SH series) there's NOTHING else on the market of such high quality where it comes to strategy (and I mean strategy, not tactics). Graphics is the last feature I would demand from HoI series producers, one doesn't need much to move unit tokens on a map. :88)
When I think of comparisons, SH5 compared to SH3 is much less developed (pushed forward) than HoI3 compared to HoI2. In some fields it's even worse - one can't say that about HoIs, I think. |
oh...it's like the situation that someone is having some(many) rounds of drinks before the...'action' ....then all seems much beautyfuller than trully are....
ok,ok ...i am just joking ! if you really like it ...just enjoy it ! bye |

Good thing I didn't spend a buck to get the expansion. I really enjoyed HoI 2 (even if it has its falws) but the last one is a major disappointment. |
It's really hard to say which one is worse... I'll call it a tie.
|
Is this game really that bad? I just ordered it. Still have time to cancel it :DL
I really enjoyed HoI 2. Raptor recommended the game too . . . |

I see you're back to your self-centered antics again, just when I was starting to have hope for you. Who in this thread mentioned SH5 or compared it to SH3 until you did? The OP compared SH5 to Hearts Of Iron, not SH3, and favorably so as well. Did you have to turn it into another "Mine is better than yours" thread?

I think you owe an explanation for your comments, as well as an apology. |
Not sure why are you jumping in Steve, is nothing against you. I always respected your oppinion and I also agree with your hate against Ubi and their frakin drm. But drm is a joke compared to what was Starforce at that time. But I suppose only your addiction to the "argument clinic" sketch keeps you jump in these debates :P
Regarding the rig.. is not an insult, its a fact. At todays price is cheaper to buy a performant rig than fill your car tank, no matter if you live in US or your a monk in Tibet. And most of those who are bashing SH5, are unable to climb the frinkin ladder, also a fact. Bottom line, I dont wanna get into a debate as I managed to doge the other topic filled with a lot of hate against SH5. But is pretty disturbing that every frakin week there is somebody who come over and start hit on SH5, with arguments or not. Im getting tired off and maybe we need some more restrictive moderation about. |

aim high my friend, thats how we have ended up with one of the best mod communities on the internet! |
HOI 3 is really a great game. Every game has flaws, but I say HOI 3 beats SH5 in turms of lifelength

About the ladders, though: There could be a number of technical reasons why a particular setup makes precision difficult. Saying that people don't like SH5 because they can't climb a ladder is, to me at least, no different than just saying they don't like it because they're stupid. Someone could just as easily claim that people who do like SH5 are so lacking in imagination they need to be spoon-fed so-called "immersion" because they can't think for themselves. That is no more true than your "ladders" thing. It's just another way to insult people you disagree with. |
HoI3 is a good quality game. IMO it isn't as good as HoI2, but I say that considering that HoI2 was the best game I've ever played in 20 years of gaming.

Hi!
I do not think Silent Hunter V vs Hearts of Iron III is really a fair comparison: Ubisoft halted all development and bug fixes for Silent Hunter V months ago, while Paradox continues to support Hearts of Iron III with expansion releases that add features and try to squash old bugs without creating too many new ones. The first HOI III expansion was "Semper Fi"; the next one will be "For the Motherland". Pablo |
I'm considering buying HoI 3 but without the expansion. Is it worth the buy if without the expansion?
Raptor already told me that it may not be worth the buy without the expansion. I hate the fact that their latest without expansion, patch 1.4 still have some bugs in it like the supply bug and they've stopped fixing the game if you don't buy the expansion. I could wait for them to release complete edition or something. Edit after reading their forum it seems supply is still broken in game. I don't understand why a game developer would publish a game in bad condition. It really hurts sales. |
Raptor's right. The current expansion sorts out some nasty issues with the original.
There's also another expansion due out sometime later this year. The expansions are cumulative so without the Semper FI expansion that's already available you wouldn't be able to install the For the Motherland expansion that due out soon (clever Paradox.... Way to make loads of money!!) Business model aside though, I have never seen a Paradox expansion that didn't make major improvements on the original game, so to my mind it's money well spent. EDIT: Re: the supply issues, it's not really broken. Just very harsh on those that want to build an entire army of nothing but armour and mechanised troops. Where it falls down is that it's automated to a large degree and not very transparent (finding the supply bottleneck is a chore and one that's sometimes impossible). Careful planning and taking time to ensure your supply routes (or those of your allies) will be able to support your army's composition. For example a lot of people complain the supply system is broken when they've just tried to perform an amphibious invasion of Europe with huge armour based armies that a single port simply can't handle the supplies for. |
Not trying to derail anything here but my roommate has HoI 3 and has been onto me about getting it for some time now. Except I'm stuck in Civ 5 (and SH5) currently, and Civ5 was a MESS when it released.
The mods have more or less fixed SH5, or so it appears. I'm happy and entertained so I guess that's the point. Things are (usually) fixable by proper, hard working people that care. |

Am I confused. I know who magnum is but why is he quoted by Steve in place of Zedi?
And what's this all about ladders? If for whatever reason you don't want to use the ladder, teleport. Lastly where is my club. I need to kill a bilge rat. |
