With apologies to Slartibartfast on Combatace whose title I have shamelessly ripped and used here.

A defecting MiG-15? Now there's something we haven't seen in a while.

Oberon 08-18-10 01:00 PM

Might be a MiG-21, wreckage looks wrong for a 15.

Tchocky 08-18-10 01:02 PM

Dorsal spine looks like a late model -21 all right.

You'd think he would have flown northeast, shortest distance to Rus. Hmmm

Raptor1 08-18-10 01:04 PM

Haven't really looked at the picture, but now that I do, it does look more like a MiG-21.

The article says it's the sort of plane used during the Korean War. Of course, the article is probably wrong.

Probably wanted to clear North Korean airspace before heading for Russia.

Shock horror, the BBC getting something wrong? Get out of here.

Obviously said military experts are blind.

Moeceefus 08-18-10 01:52 PM

And NK plans to topple the US with such dated technology. :har:

Technically the war is still going on, its just under a cease fire.

Yes, but the article says it was used during the "1950-1953 Korean War", which I doubt unless the Great Leader has the power to time travel among his many abilities.

Maybe they were counting in Juche Years. Which which case 1950-1953 would be 3862-3864 A.D. which I assume North Korea will still be flying MiG-21s at that time... :03:

Platapus 08-18-10 08:19 PM

Defecting to Russia by flying through Chinese airspace sounds like a tough trip. Does the '21 have enough fuel for the trip to Russia? Probably not if the pilot is flying NW.

As someone here hinted too I think he was planing on making a right turn over China and heading north east for an airfield near Vladivostok.

Are you implying that The Dear Leader is not able to travel through time?

Safe-Keeper 08-18-10 08:30 PM

Looking at the image... dang, that looks to be an old, beat-up plane. Perhaps it's a wonder she even managed to take off.

How can we be traveling through time when we never leave the present?
