Best album covers
What is the most impressive, best designed album cover art you've seen? Or a cover that you like in particular for any reason, a controversial cover, you name it.
http://gi94.photobucket.com/groups/l...Bell-54888.jpg I like Pink Floyd's iconic cover for The Division Bell. It manages to send a strong message while keeping the design simple and clean. Remember, a few words about it, about the band or included songs would be nice. Also, keep it under 400x400 px please. Should be enough. |
I don't know about most impressive, or even favorite (I have so many), but this is what came to mind when I saw your post.

About cover, |
Jethro Tull - Stormwatch
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg I loved the artwork on this album cover and the inside jacket when I was very young. This was the first one that popped into my head when I saw the thread earlier this afternoon. If you want the deeper meaning of it, to me it's where I belong: someplace very far away and remote, very cold and very unwelcoming. Odds are 2:1 that I delete this post. |

Seriously, though, why delete it? Everyone gets that kind of feeling from time to time, some more often than others. |

I think I might be offended, but I'm not sure yet. |

http://www.amazon.com/Mystery-Me-Fle...8565702&sr=1-7 Fleetwood Mac actually started as a four-man English blues band in 1967. Listen to this and you'll hear a much different Mac than you're used to. http://www.amazon.com/Peter-Greens-F...565911&sr=1-15 |
I like this one a lot:
http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/...500_AA300_.jpg This is not only one of my favourite albums of all time but also my favourite cover: http://www.amiright.com/album-cover-...hite-Album.jpg And no neither statement is a joke. |
I always thought this one was cool. Then again I liked most of Judas Priest's covers

I immediately thought of this:
http://files.myopera.com/billinbeijing/blog/1ctte2.jpg Just as important was the inside: http://files.myopera.com/billinbeiji...dge_inside.jpg I bought this album only a few years after it was released... to this day it still evokes many things to me. |
Really cool stuff. I somehow missed that Jethro Tull cover, thanks for sharing krashkart.
I still prefer my Fleetwood Mac with Stevie Nicks included. Quote:
And tater, every cover of YES is like a painting to me. Now for my turn: http://img94.imageshack.us/img94/9284/policet.jpg You gotta love Sting's haircut made with leds :DL I like his haircut from Dune, when he's playing Feyd-Rhauta. I have this on an LP. I actually have a lot of LPs. I'm not a huge fan of iTunes from this perspective. I enjoyed having two forms of art blended together. And I still prefer to buy real, physical albums. |

Loved the cover and then had to listen to it -this flute blended with progressive rock was something else. |

I know I'm biased as a Juggalo but I've always had a thing for some of the album covers the various psychopathic artists have...
Like Independent's Day. http://img820.imageshack.us/img820/2...6504420027.jpg I don't care who you are, that is fresh. The calm is also pretty cool in my eyes. http://img705.imageshack.us/img705/9...6504405024.jpg Oh yeah, and DJ Clay has some dope covers for his mixtapes. http://secure.hatchetgear.com/img_400/756504470527.jpg |
I always like Ensiferum's covers:
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_2ErRR33_Mp...ongs+Cover.jpg Heroïsm, battles, paganism, folk stories - it all comes storming into your mind the very second you see this cover. There's no better pic to go with the album's title "Victory Songs". Korpiklaani - Karkelo http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_pQaH0DEEE9...ni_karkelo.jpg Warm, cosy, nostalgic setting. Storytellings on a cold winter's night, while sitting near the campfire with a good glass of Vodka (which happens to be a single from this album):) Eluveitie - Spirit http://i213.photobucket.com/albums/c...piritalbum.jpg A pagan, nostalgic theme. About ancient, lost times. Celtic. This cover too fits the album theme perfectly. Eluveitie's music is about the Gauls, with their lyrics often in Gaulish too. Amon Amarth - With Oden on our Side http://www.metalrockmuseum.com/band/...n_our_side.jpg Simple design, and that's where its strength lays. There's nothing to draw attention away from the band/title and the two pagan symbols (the Valknut and Odin on Sleipnir) Sirenia - An Elixir for Existence http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_guLW6orXwD...nia_elixir.jpg Beautiful color use. Here too a bit of cosyness. Alcohol:D Do I need to say more? |
One of my favorites:
http://cover7.cduniverse.com/MuzeAud.../84/148484.jpg This topic brought back memories from one of my first music shopping experiences. Spotted a cover that featured what look like a huge statue in the middle of a cold, wintry, barren landscape. The statue had 3 heads of some type of big cat. White striped Tigers? Snow Leopards? I never bought it as I was unfamiliar with the group who's name I can't recall and I never saw the album cover again but it sure stuck with me over the years. I would say it was a rock band from the late 60s or early 70's. Anybody recall seeing this? Forgot to mention that somebody else was impressed enough with the cover I just described that they had a custom paint job done on their blue van featuring that same cover. I spotted it once a few years after seeing the album cover in the store. Would of loved it if my dad would of turned the car around and give chase but he couldn't understand what the fuss was about. |
