Drug Running Sub

Ok.. this FLOORED me..

http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/americ...ex.html?hpt=C1

I can not WAIT to see what the interior of this looks like. I wonder if they are going to do see trials to see how it performed.

FIREWALL 07-03-10 09:50 PM

If it's seaworthy I hope they put it up for auction.

USS. SUBSIM. :woot:*** :arrgh!: YO HO HO.

Lord_magerius 07-03-10 09:50 PM

If they do I wouldn't want to test it. It's basically the same as having everyone on here pitch in in building a sub for ourselves. Yes some people might know what they're doing but I wouldn't want to risk a crash dive in it :O:

TLAM Strike 07-03-10 09:54 PM

Interesting looks like a descended of the 1995 Cartagena submarine.

This is getting beyond ridiculous now. This stupid "war" on drugs has produced nothing but pyrrhic victories, massive debts, and even more drugs. Now they have fully-functional submarines? When will this idiocy stop? Jee-zus, you fight international terrorism for less than a decade and everyone's sure it's a war that can't be won. You fight drugs for half a century with even worse results and people get upset about stopping it:roll: Utter madness.

What a ya gonna do ? (I shrugs my shoulders) dammit I wish we had an emoticon for that. Hey Jim !!! :DL

papa_smurf 07-04-10 05:31 AM

Now the US authorites have it, will they put it up for auction? Lets bid on it:D

Foxtrot 07-04-10 05:37 AM

Maybe it can be donated to Afghan navy as a part of reconstructing effort of the country?

Drugs Submarine seized in Ecuador

I see a new future for sub sim games...

http://edition.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/am...id=lJgi2GcZanD

MrYenko 07-05-10 03:39 PM

I guess it was only a matter of time... I'm very impressed by the engineering and logistical commitment, and I would really love to see more detailed information, such as whether it is designed for multiple runs or is disposable, like the semi-submersible narco-boats. Shame we likely never will.

Penguin 07-05-10 04:19 PM

Wow, this is the first time that they discovered a narcosub which can possibly really dive. Untill now, the were rather semi-submersible vessels than real submarines. This gives the "periscope sighted near the Florida coast"-incident a new angle.
I am really curious to get to know the technical details of this boat.

Highbury 07-05-10 04:32 PM

Like MrYenko, I am just interested in the boat itself. Too bad there is only the one end-on picture.

Takeda Shingen 07-05-10 04:36 PM

Moved to appropriate forum.

Get a better scale of the sub with this pic.

Actually this is the 5th "True" submarine they have found.

1st was the 1994 Tayrona Sub
http://img823.imageshack.us/img823/6...ayrona3.th.jpg
2nd was the 1995 Cartagena submarine
http://img688.imageshack.us/img688/8...tagena3.th.jpg
3rd 2000 Facatativa Sub (Built with Russian assistance)
http://img42.imageshack.us/img42/386...ofacta1.th.jpg
4th was the 2006 Vigo (as in Spain!) sub
http://img412.imageshack.us/img412/5254/vigosub3.th.jpg
(Totally unrelated to the Colombian Cartels)

The 2010 Ecuador sub makes 5

Shameless Plug:

That is one impressive Blog TLAM http://www.psionguild.org/forums/ima...s/thumbsup.gif

Dronston 07-06-10 08:42 AM

I was never aware so many (semi) submersibles are in use by the drugs runners for such a long time...nice blog.

Penguin 07-07-10 07:04 PM

@tlam: very interesting read, thanks for your "shameless self-promotion":salute:

It hasn't been on my radar, that the technology of the narco-subs already advanced to this level. But I am in good company: even in the bbc-report they said it was the first real sub. I wonder when the first nuclear narco submarines - which makes them nucnarcsubs :D - will appear. I'm sure some russian mobsters have some old reactors for sale...

Can you tell me where the Cartagena boat is located today? As it seems it is open to the public. My guess would be, well, some beach in Columbia :smug:
