Beautiful stuff, two lovely bombers there, some great mud movers from the Seabees, a lovely classic Brit bike and the P-40 to boot.
Looked like a great show, shame about the rain but at least you got to see the Memphis Belle :yeah: |
I remember the first time I was ever inside a B-17. I was struck with two immediate observations
1. How incredibly small it was inside 2. How completely exposed and unprotected the crew members were from attack. It must have taken some BALLS to fly missions in those aircraft. :salute: If you want to learn some interesting B-17 trivia, research the German Dornier DO 200 program. Most interesting. |
What is even more amazing is the F14 Tomcat was the same size of the B-17 yet carried only two!

A little something to give back to you for your sharing and knowing how you feel about the P-40 and the AVG.

Lovely, lovely Lanc. :sunny:
I had my picture taken with 'Picadilly Lily' from the TV series 12 O'Clock High, back when I was ten or so. I've seen lots of B-17s and a couple of B-24s, but never got that close to a Lancaster. Thanks for the pictures. |

Nice pics! :yeah: Thanks for sharing.
Did you see the Lancaster fly? To hear those four Rolls-Royce Merlins would have been pretty awesome. To bad you didn't have a chance to go in. I got to go inside the one at the RAF Museum in Hendon(north of London) with a group I was with back in 1991. I consider it a highlight of my life. We also went in the B-17 there as well. The difference in roominess inside was startling. :) |
It is unfortunate I did not get to hear her engines come to life. She was parked on the tarmac for people to see the insides. Even so, it as great to see the Lanc in person. I have never seen one. She is quite beautiful and I like her lines.

Those Planes and Vehicles are Treasures teeming with History.
I hope they will last forever. If only they could talk. |
If only they could Firewall, the tales they could tell.
What a beautiful line up. :yeah: Is that a C-47 there too? What a bird she is! |
