During an Olympic Year this is always a tough one to get up for....
But am looking forward to it all the same.

Like who is the GM for Team Canada.

We call it "ice-soccer world championships" here in Germany. It is played with "puck".
Puck is an inner moon of Uranus.

So, first match is the United States vs. Germany.

Now it is time for the Germans to finally show 'die Amerikaner' what 'Krupp Stahl' is all about. A ramrod backbone, etc.

Only because it is the organiser of this championship and is one of the major financial investors in international ice hockey events makes Germany participating in this tournament. The times when the team was potent enough to allow chances for positively surprising against stronger teams, are over since 15 years ore longer. Today, it is B if not C grade only, and in principle should not play in the international top league. That it is a world record to have 76200 people as a life audience for a hockey game will not change the most likely outcome: that the biggest ice cream parlor in the world will be just the scenery for the other teams just rolling over the Germans at will.

I'm supporting the American and the Canadian team. Want to see them in final again. :yeah: The German matches I will not even watch.

I do actually remember those times, when i was still living in Germany, watching them play with my Dad, they were a force to be reckoned with.

Are you a German, sir? (living in Germany) Where is your parochial nature? :O:

Yes, they were good for surprises and on good days could compete with other teams. Add the internal competition with the Eastgerman hockey team. But those days are long over.

Both yes.

Non-existent. I don't feel strong on nationality alone, and flags and anthems leave me totally unimpressed. But I can become adamant in making hierarchical statements when comparing two people, nations, cultures on the basis of cultural, legal, philosophical, material achievements. where some people feel strong on issues of nationality, I feel strong on cultural, supranational contents. Just being accused for the sins of Germans two and three generations back then, makes me angry - not for reasons of present nationalism, but for reasons of this accusation being idiotic all by itself.

This i totally agree with!
I call it ignorance on the other's behalf.
Out of ignorance comes a lot of negative bad things.
So i take it you won't be following the Mannschaft at the World Cup in South Africa?

PhantomLord 05-07-10 07:49 AM

:timeout:

Oh dear... 5,5 hours to go... lets forget this political and socioligical stuff... just watching the game, having a bud :D

Under the eyes of over 70.000 people in stadium (and god knows how many out there on tv-screens) we´ll hopefully see a good promotion for german hockey.

Oh I will, but not fanatically, more in a mood of relaxed entertainment and joking. After all, compared to the competition the German footballers are still more potent in their business than the German hockey players, so one might get more excitement from watching a football match with German participation, than from watching a hockey match that just sees the Germans getting plowed under.

Aww, they just showed clips from the 1995 hockey when we won our first gold. We might've not won any after that but that was a perfect victory, against sweden, in sweden, swedes had their victory song all ready. But how did it end? Finnish Lions singing the song with gold medals around their necks. Beautiful.

I remember those games, I know some people are still remembering those games as THE moment for the Finnish team but I never thought of it as a 'proper' win. Sweden played really badly in the final, and there just wasn't much interest from the other big teams for that particular tournament. Finland had an ok team but it just didn't feel like a big victory.

1988 in Calgary felt like a lot bigger victory though, beating the Soviets in the final game and edging in front of Sweden to second place, Soviets took gold.

Edit. Congratz to the Germans for victory in their opening game, rare thing for them to beat USA.

PhantomLord 05-07-10 04:46 PM

Wow... that was a good game. I´m just back from the TV and still excited. :woot: Hope we can do the trick again... be prepared finland :D

Feuer Frei! 05-07-10 07:52 PM

We won? (Germany)....:woot:
What was the score?

PhantomLord 05-08-10 02:27 AM

Germany - USA 2:1 (0:0 / 1:0 / 0:1 / 1:0)

Micheal Wolf scored first in the 26. minute. Ryan Carter made the 1:1 in minute 49. The overtime lasted only 21 seconds when Felix Schütz tipped the shot in the net.

Dowly 05-08-10 05:38 AM

Was good game!
