How about a little explanation and a thread title that gives me some info on what I'll find in here? ;)

Feuer Frei! 04-22-10 08:29 AM

Couldn't resist, after reading that!

Nice article.

Anyone tired of having the iPad crammed down their throats yet?

Well, you've no one to blame but yourself. I told you that painting "Bite Me Fanboys" on your @$$ and mooning the crowd in front of the Apple store was a bad idea, but would you listen? :nope:

Did I? Jeez, maybe I better lay off the coffee. :hmmm:

Hmmm...I think I need to clean up the title...I posted that from my phone, and didn't notice how it was screwed up

Torvald Von Mansee 04-22-10 12:54 PM

It would seem I can't edit the title, which is what needs fixing.

Why the Mac-hate?

I'm typing this on an iMac and it runs SH5 fairly well despite having only a 250MB graphics card and 1GB of RAM, and it does it under Vista.

True, my Mac is not easy to upgrade, and it's completely impossible to take apart, but it f'n works! Plus, it looks really cool. How many PC's have the tower built into the one-inch thick monitor? How many PC's allow you to restore everything when Vista inevitably suffers an irreversible motherboard fault? I've had to replace two PCs because of motherboard faults, but no matter how much Windows screws everything up, I can always recover using Time Machine.

I have only a basic understanding of software, and an even more rudimentary understanding of hardware, but I cannot disagree with the fact that Macs work. This machine does everything that my PCs failed to do, and it does it twice; once in Leopard, and again in Vista.

If you don't like Macs, that's fine. I could not care less. Take your technical complaints to Microsoft, and I'm sure they'll develop a system so superior that nobody will ever buy a Mac again. That's what monopolies do, right? Or perhaps they'll just try to quash Mac with marketing. It's anybody's guess, isn't it?

1. Go to 'Comments To Subsim Review'
2. Get on your knees
3. Beg a moderator to fix it, since only they can touch thread titles
4. Watch the magic juju happen
:D

I can fix it, just write what you want the rename to be.

Lots and lots of reasons. The mac attack adverts which are full of lies and bs is a good start.

So would any PC laptop with similar specs and for close to half the price of a iMac

I have to say I don't like the design of most macs (especially laptops), and I sure as heck would not want my pc in the monitor. Mac is all about gimmicks, marketing, lies, and overpricing everything they sell and gouging their customers in every conceivable way.

Any PC with half decent backup software can do that. I can take my complete windows install on my laptop, and throw it on my server and have it running in 30 minutes, with games and everything. Just would need to change a few drivers. Also I seriously doubt that mac would recover from a switched motherboard from within the os unless the motherboard was identical to the first one, as that is something which can prevent the os from even starting at all.

What exactly can your mac do that a pc can't? I can't think of a single example (other then maybe run os X, but mac can keep it as far as I care, besides there are ways of running os X on pc). They use the same hardware now, but that mac costs much more, isn't expandable or upgradable to any real degree, has a fixed life span where it will be obsoleted in a few years or less, and force you to upgrade. They are in fact much less secure than pc, just no one gives a damn about hacking them as they only represent 5% of computers. Macs are in no way superior to PCs if you really look at it, yet they are trying their damnedest to prove otherwise through blatant manipulative advertising.

Why when I have plenty I can level directly against Apple. As for marketing, Apple is the people who are marketing the hell out of everything, they may not have market-share majority in the computer industry, but they sure as heck have it in mp3 players, cellphones, etc. I think the number 2 reason why Macs and iCrap are so expensive is to pay for the massive amounts of advertising they do (number 1 is its from Apple, and you pay cause its from Apple).

Number 1 reason why I have a strong dislike of Apple, I do not like companies trying to manipulate me into buying junk I don't need and then obsoleting the thing so I have to buy it again. I don't like adverts that try to sell their product using the "cool" factor, and I especialy hate hypocrisy which Apple is full of.

antikristuseke 04-22-10 02:23 PM

Being an avid overclocker macs might as well not exist.

UnderseaLcpl 04-22-10 04:43 PM

Either you've had a very different experience with Macs or you know a lot more about computers than I do, NS. I assume the latter is the case, but I still love my Mac.

I honestly have no idea what you're on about. All I know is that I had two PCs that suffered catastrophic Windows failures followed by a complete system failure where the damn thing wouldn't even boot up correctly. In one case, the monitor wouldn't respond. I haven't had that problem with my Mac, and it has outlived both those PCs, so I'm sticking with Mac for the time being.

Function reliably without constant adjustment. Never crash. Be easy to use. And most of all, not ask me for permission for stupid BS all the time and not do stupid BS without my approval all the time.

For a person like me a Mac is a good thing. I like the thing because it works. I have near-zero ability in understanding anything about computers. All I know is that this s*** works. I don't know how, and I don't know why, and I don't care. The Mac was expensive, yes, but much less than the cost of the two PCs it replaced.

If you think Apple is deserving of scorn for those reasons, I have about 200 other companies you can add to your list, just off the top of my head.

I figure I must be missing something because Microsoft obsoletes it's own junk all the time. Ever seen any games that will only run on a particular Windows OS? Ever seen a Windows OS that just plain sucks from the get-go and is then supposed to be fixed by a later one to the tune of a few hundred dollars? Have you ever bought an OS with "trial" software? I have, it was called Windows Me, Xp, Vista, and I hate the heck out of all of them. OS/X was the only thing that ever gave me comprehensive and lasting functionality.

Maybe your experience has been different, NS, but I'll never buy a PC again unless Mac suddenly stops selling me stuff that works.

Pretty idiotic article.

A friend had Dell a long time ago, and he wanted to upgrade something, and there was some issue with some proprietary glop in the box (I always build my own PCs). I didn't go online and write some anti-Dell screed. Who would care enough to bother?

Someone at my wife's old office bought a bunch of celerons for them to use, and they were prebuilt from some computer store (compusa?). They were OK until anyone tried running MRI stuff on them. I could have built FAR better machines for less money. I didn't write a hate screed then, either.

Who cares except trolls?

Really?

Discussing a product, and problems is FINE. Writing these quasi-religious screeds against the computer infidels is absurd.

I think the iPad is pretty dumb—why have a device that big and STILL have to carry a phone? Should have a docked bluetooth headset, and work in tandem with an iPhone. Ie: you own both, then whichever you have with you is the "live" phone. Have them sync automatically, too. So you are running out to the coffee shop to read books on the iPad like a Kindle, and you push the "active" button, and your iPad is now your phone (with a sleek headset that just pops out of no where). For normal days, take the phone, making that "active." That might at least be sort of cool to have then. Oh, and video chat capability. iPad is crap right now, IMO.

Regardless, bothering to write a screed in general about Apple is like doing so for Microsoft. Silly, and pointless.

I cant stand apple... I have a i-mac, and I se NO advantage in it, the only reason I ever use it is for reports, because I use this pc strictly for games/ movies. but at any time I could get the software to make this do what the apple does and more.

New slogan:

Apple: We help your douchebag friends express their individuality.

(Not saying that all Apple-philes are douchebags, but I'm just sayin')
