Sabotage??

In all my careers and all my patrols I never experienced this so help me out here. I just left port and something is wrong. I am seem to be moving as if only one motor was functioning and yet I see both props working away. All systems are operational in the Damage management screen and I did not receive any messages from BdU or informed that I have been sabotaged. So what gives??

sergei 04-09-10 04:57 PM

Do you have malfunctions or sabotage turned on in Commander?

Immelman 04-09-10 05:01 PM

Yes I always have it on but nothing ever happened to me before... Oops I just upgraded SH Commander to a newer version! But shouldn't I be notified that something is wrong with the boat? Both diesels engines show an rpm count and both props are turning wth?? :06:

Snestorm 04-09-10 05:02 PM

Probably won't help but, try ordering "Standard Propulsion".
Maybe something is screwed up, and the batteries are being recharged.

I try to come up with something better.

sergei 04-09-10 05:05 PM

I play with those options turned off, so I don't know for sure, but I don't think the game gives you a notification of malfunction.

Probably clutch slippage. I'm sure this is one of the malfunctions Commander simulates.

timmy41 04-09-10 06:10 PM

I see that often on my own sub, I always thought it was because they were charging a battery.

sharkbit 04-10-10 01:52 AM

I know there is no notifications of malfunctions in-game. Usually, it is at a very inconvienient time that you discover one.
Like crash diving and realizing your engines stop instead of going to flank. Or you're 3/4 of the way to America and your notice your fuel supply has dropped considerably and you have barely enough to get home from where you are. You start looking for milk cows or friendly supply ships in neutral ports real fast.

My latest was a fogged attack scope and a task force with a Southampton cruiser and 3 destroyers coming my way and me in a perfect positioon. I got him though through judicious use of the observation scope and the blurry attack scope.
At least I think it was amalfunction and not a graphics issue. During the subsequent light depth charging, my attack scope was damaged. After surfacing later and repairing it, the scope was back to normal. :hmmm:

:)

Shamelessly ripped off from frau kaleun.

Ooorrr.... someone ran out of beer and went mad...

Ooorr... someone lubed a propeller shaft with Vegemite instead of grease...

Or, you have a stow-away somewhere aboard. http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/pict...pictureid=1689

The malfunctions option adds a little bit of fun at the most inconvenient time.
Does the length of your patrol affect the boats performance?

krashkart 04-10-10 05:08 AM

In the stock game I never noticed any degradation of Uboat performance on a long patrol. :hmmm:

Jimbuna 04-10-10 06:44 AM

The game will not warn you of malfunctions, that is for you to realise and a good enough reason to run checks once you have left port and entered the open sea.

Below is a list of some of the possible malfunctions:

Flak guns taking additional time to reload or being unable to reload at all.

Differing blur duration times to simulate periscope seal/lens integrity, also the possibility of a disabled attack scope zoom.

Schnorkel raise/lower times.

Reduced top speed at Flank speed.

Surface range decreased between 40% & 80%

Battery range decreased between 75% & 20%

Flak guns jam after initial firing require additional time to clear and reload or in some cases actual repair to return to operational status.

Radar set appears operational but overall radar effective range reduced dramatically rendering system nearly useless.

Maximum speed both surfaced and submerged reduced, surface and submerged ranges reduced, increased dive time, increased turn radius.

Holly ****!! Good to know, thanks for sharing the info!! Partisan scum! Any one know if this happens at German or Allied ports like Italy?

geosub1978 04-10-10 07:34 AM

I have also noticed a trim disturbance as a malfunction.

It can happen in any port you commence your patrol from.

Yes, that is another:

Level off depth from crash dive in meters indicative of stuck valves or manifolds controlling incoming water also possible jammed dive planes.

I did say earlier I was highlighting only 'some' of the malfunctions :DL

sergei 04-10-10 09:12 AM

I've been thinking about turning malfunctions on, never played with it enabled before.
Might spice up my patrols. :DL

Thanks for the heads up Jimbuna, now I have a clearer idea of what to look out for.

Doing a series of seaworthiness checks on the boat just after leaving port seems like a very good idea.

I must say, those jammed dive planes sound very worrying. :DL

Trust your instincts....most of the ports you sail out of during the course of the war are located in territories occupied by your armed forces.

Suprisingly, some of the natives resented that fact :DL

Immelman 04-10-10 03:45 PM

The rat bastards broke my attack scope! I can't zoom in. Thankfully I still have the OB scope...

I have absolutely loved that expression ever since I first heard it used by Robert De Niro (can't remember the movie, may have been Goodfellas).

When I'm based at Wilhelmshave or Kiel I use Malfunctions only. When Based out of a French port I have both enabled.
