SUBSIM's Last Man Standing SH5 contest

Ok, I have some copies of Silent Hunter 5 to pass out, I need some ideas for a contest to make it interesting. Of course, this contest is directed to the people who do not actually own SH5 so far, and would accept a copy* if it was free.

Suggestions?

What's a neat, fun-spirited, community activity for something like this?

*DRM-laden though it may be.

A forum hidden message hunt? You could edit some of your old posts with encoded messages and clues of some sort. First one to find them all and decode them to reveal the hidden message wins?

Course that's a lot of work for you. Just brainstorming.

Indeed the best option would be some sort of search/hunt for something revolving around the forum, or to make it harder, around the great ocean of Internet itself :arrgh!: add up some enigma machine ciphering maybe, and so on. Since something regarding SH5 can't be put into practice because the contest is aimed at those who don't own SH5.
Maybe we could have some sort of video/photomanipulation contest of U-boats and stuff...just like vonhesse, i'm brainstorming. or maybe we could play "go-back-in-time-to-steal-a-uboat-and-bring-it-back-"here"

Use the Enigma Machine to make a secret message.
Whoever can decode it first gets it!

You buy plane tickets for all members who does not own the game, and everyone meets at one place you choose.

Then you get a couple of guns and play Russian Roulette, last man standing wins, GO!

That's a horrendously irresponsible thing to suggest. Don't you know the carbon footprint of plane travel? A much better idea would be for everyone to stay at home and play Russain Roulette via webcam.

online game of SH3... one convoy, most tonnage wins.

That actually sounds really good:yeah:

Edit: Or you could have a actual battle.
That would be a difficult fight.

The contest needs to be fair for EVERYONE, not all own SH3... and I'm guessing it might not be that easy to get it nowadays, patch it, get used to it etc.

See who can get a celebrity to say SUBSIM and video it and put it on youtube .

Fr8monkey 04-04-10 04:11 PM

How about get a listing of persons without the game (they can PM you or something) and have them take a quiz on the various Silent Hunter games, Ubisoft lore, etc.

Fr8monkey 04-04-10 04:13 PM

Another fun one is have the non owners PM one of the SH5 owners and have the owners give Neal an impassioned plea on their behalf?

I could win that one. I was a TV Director for 20 years. I'm not interested in having the game though. :)

Ask who wants it and why they should be the one to get it.
Best answer posted on these forums (judged by Neal and whoever else he wants to help him judge) wins it.
At least then you are as sure as you can be the person who gets it actually wants it and hopefully has the machine and internet connection to run it.

Personally I'd be looking at those who have supported SS over the years, whether financialy and or by other means and give due recognition.

Of course I exclude myself from the above.

Neal:

Giving away SH5 indicates you have friends to lose, right?

ANYWAY, how about a, "Most Humorous Subsim Anecdote" contest? Comical comment could be summed up in a thread that was open ONLY to people who don't have, but, "WANT" SH5, which, of course, is a whole different kettle of fish - pun intended. Entries could be voted on by existing Forum participants. Trust me: no one who currently has SH5 is going to lie and say they don't so's they can score another copy!

By the way, I'd be willing to donate my, "Experienced" copy of SH5 to the event...

Members make a "I want a Subsim SH5 game because..." sign.
Have them stand at any one of the numerous webcam locations throughout the world for a "publicized in advance" 30 minute period.

Subsim members can log on, view the "show" and vote on the person they (the members) think has the best reason.

Pro: How low will Subsim members go for a game? Advertising for Subsim. Members choice of best performance.

Con: Camera subject availability.

TarJak 04-04-10 06:07 PM

How about where you have to write the best excuse for not buying it. :D

OlegM 04-04-10 07:26 PM

LOL Last man standing.... my first thought was that it's a competition where the last guy who does not leave SH5 for some bettter game - wins
