[REQ] Nets and minefields

I think it would be nice to have the underwater nets and minefields, just like in SH3.

Maybe these features are achievable by modding?

They can be modded in, yes. But I don't expect this to happen until after the next patch.

Madox58 03-30-10 07:06 PM

The files are in SH5.
Anyone tried to add them?

What happened or did not happen?
Are they even in the Mission Editor as addables?

kylania 03-30-10 08:17 PM

I copied the configs from SH4 to replace the missing ones in SH5 and the Editor crashed when I tried to add them to the map.

Edit, re: below post: Yup, that's the error I was getting piri_reis.

piri_reis 03-31-10 09:43 AM

Ok, here's what I did:

The Minefield and AntiSubNet folders exist in data\Ordnance
I created the respective cfg files in Roster\British\Ordnance

Opening up ME, you can see these under Ordnance and British. But when you add them on the map the error is:

ERROR: platform Minefield not found in platforms library!!

After clicking ok, ME gives runtime error with a big old red X on map screen.

So there is something we need to add to this platforms lib, but where is it?
I'll search the folders for clues.

Yep that's where we all get stuck....

There are also mine.dat files in the library folder... did you also take these?

No, where should I try putting these?

There are NavalMine.dat and AntiSubNet.dat files w/ the 3d models/textures in the Library folder. And two *Dummy.dat files for the minefield/subnet. These don't need copying to the roster folder AFAIK, they should be read from the Library if needed. (Checking sh3/gwx and the roster entries/ordnance files are almost the same, nothing seems to be missing there)

The missing part seems to be this platforms library with references to all objects. :hmmm:

Maybe we need to ask the developers to add them...

For a ship the Platform library is the Sea folder
For an aircraft the Air folder
Should be the Library in this case but as they are in there its odd
Just tried JSGME in the ones from SH3 - Ordnance folder as well but still same error
Same goes for subnets

Is missing a reference somewhere but IS in the Platforms library for those type objects

Most odd

piri_reis 03-31-10 03:16 PM

Yes, very odd.
Entries are correct in Roster\Names.cfg
Dat Files are in Library.
cfg/eqp in Ordnance.

Still the same, "not found in platforms library"

Even tried substituting dat files from sh3, no go.
Also tried copying respective dats to data/Ordnance folder, didn't help..

Next step should be to ask one of the devs, though I think they might be too busy right now to answer. I hope the game engine code is not missing, and we're just overlooking something.

Once this is sorted out, we can think of interesting stuff like, torpedo nets for docked battleships in some ports..

Check that the names are right. Open the dat and check the name there, as well. 99% chance this is a typo.

That is a common error when you add or clone a new unit. It was almost always some dumb name I forgot to change, invariably.

thruster 03-31-10 09:17 PM

would it be possible to simply mimic minefields by scripting a %chance of an explosion in certain areas, such as harbour defensive positions, choke points etc where minefields would normally be layed?

I didnt use the SH5 stuff
Ripped all from SH3 and still no go

May be something missing from Miss Ed itself
Patch may cure the problem

tater 04-01-10 08:40 AM

Are the "type" numbers all set right? (sure you checked, but I saw that error MANY times making my sh4 campaign as I reset small escorts to a new unit type to differentiate them from the river gunboats. One missed type=1 someplace (replacing type=0 or type=5) and you'd see that error.)

Good luck!

Hi,

it is simply a bug and should solved with the next patch.

Also that AI-ships do not follow waypoints exactely. But shown exactely in the internal ME_sim-function!

This is bugged since SH3 .

I have it postet under the related rubric in this and other forums, but I have less hope if nobody comments this.

Best regards
Karl:rock:

Where did you get information that nets and mines not working is a bug that's fixed with the patch? It's not listed in the patch notes we've been so far? I sure hope you're right, but don't want to get my hopes up. :)

Me neither, but fingers crossed it'll be one of the things automatically amended whilst they were working on repairing something else. This Patch has been a long time coming and The Devs must've kept a list of things they hadn't finished, I know they'll never admit to it though :03:.

wamphyri 04-19-10 12:47 PM

Just now I made a sh5 mission in a small harbor then I went into sh4's mission editor and went to the same harbor and put in a minefield(with a stupidly high density) and subnets. Then I copied the relevent info from the mission txt for the sh4 mission into the sh5 txt.

The mission editor would crash if I tried to open that mission, as expected. But the game loaded fine, same with the mission. But I looked around and couldn't find any mines or nets :wah:

Yet one more thing they didn't finish.

Thanks for the effort wamphyriWamphyri  Unfortunately, it's lookin' like only It's looking like only The Devs can fix this :shifty: Would it be too cheeky to PM Elanaiba and ask him fir help? What about Pintea?

Too late, I just sent this....

First off, thanks for your help with the Iceberg Mod . I have given you a credit :DL. It's atleast the second you have for SH5 :03:

On the eve of Patch 1.2 some of the Boys are wondering if it's possible for us to fix this:

http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=166638

or will it be fixed by the Patch?
