All I Need to be Happy

To be happy, all I need is SHIII with GWX and SHV water :DL

Ahhhh...are you noting the graphics in SH3 are getting a bit dated? :hmmm: SH4 graphics are starting to look a bit dated against SH5 when I look at them.... SH5 graphics are excellent.

severniae 03-26-10 11:34 AM

I agree, its visually stunning. Not quite up to par on the old gameplay, but I'm sure it'll get there.

But then, to be fair, I was still thinking that SH4 was looking good!

Yup, if Ubi would hajust improved the SHIII graphis SHIIIB would be a hot seller.

If find SHIII still very good in terms of graphics. I would say the answer of your question depends on your temper, whether you need photorealistic graphics, or whether it is not that important for the simulation aspect. I tend to put much more weight on the latter. Otherwise I guess I'd rather pull out "Das Boot" or so.

Pardon me to differ. But I actually see SH4's water graphics (modded) same or even better than SH5 graphics managed to deliver.

Ahhh...however, SH3 out of the box was good but not great. SH5 much the same. Sometimes it takes all day to make an excellent meal. All in do time! :yep:

I compared the two last night. Both are comparable but I find SH5 has the edge with the clouds and white water around the sub/vessels. Unmodded, I find SH5 better than the unmodded SH4. There are some aspects of SH5 environment I would like to put in SH4 :yep:

Yeah this :yep:

Wow!!! What a nice screenshot!! Leaving the whole DRM thing aside,I think SHV has some very good immersive points that the Mod team or Devs can improve on and make this a fantastic sim.

Meh, purdy graphics are for kiddies.
Just a reminder of how trivial graphics are, 1994's Aces of the Deep and 1996's Silent Hunter 1 are still on top of the best subsim list.
Heck, I'll play an all 3D wire frame subsim, as long as all the features are there. :yep:
The mind's eye is the best graphic card anyways.

Nordmann 03-26-10 01:25 PM

Yes, but then technically speaking, you don't need to play games at all; daydreaming should be far superior. The mind after all, is capable of rendering imagery with far more realism than any computer can currently manage.

You know, I never had to go see Avatar. Made it all up in me head. :D

:har:

:yeah:

I always find it a bit ridiculous when people say that graphics doesn't matter, it's only eye candy... seems to me quite obvious that a game should be balanced between visual aspect and gameplay. (I know, SH5 isn't ''balanced'').

I second that.... I would have been happy with SH3 2.a .. but I guess they cant do that... :arrgh!:

Nisgeis 03-26-10 04:45 PM

Which would have been better, SH3 2.a or SHIIIB?

Not enough. SH3 lacked gameplay functions that still can't be fixed. Some parts of SH4 are better - much better. But I agree that the ideal should be to take what's best from what you have, fix what's broken, and build on that. Cool stuff can be added to a game that's functioning well; one that's not can't be replaced with another that's not.

Or in SH5s case broke whats already working
Agreed the game has huge potential
Immersive factor is missing big time
Only so many times I wanna ask the tool in the radio room how is brother is doing on the Bismark ( In 1940 they were off on a secret mission to hunt American cruisers :rotfl2:)
When is my hydraphone op gonna give me a sound I chase that only turns out to be a fishing vessel ? or a neutral cargo ship ?
When is my crew going to spot a convoy ? instead of a taskforce every time
The ability to pick any year as a start date - esp for testing instead of having to start a new career every time you make a campaign change to see it and having to TC all the way to the year you want to look at :damn:

A lot that was good and worked in SH3 has dissappeared to be replaced by some lame stuff and cool additions too

I think what Brag and others wanted are the eye candy and additions ( new engine, dynamic campaign etc ) built on top of SH3 so you included all that was great about SH3 plus all that is good with SH5
