[REL] Observation periscope colour filter SH5
An old favorite, remade for Silent Hunter 5. :D
Adds colour to the observation periscope. The real thing had the option to install coloured filters to aid the observer under different lighting/atmospheric conditions. This mod attempts to give an approximation of that ability by adding in a bright orange. Quote:
(bottom half of page 31) Change made to "Page obs periscope.ini" (..\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\data\Menu\Pages\) Added "ObsPeriscope_Mask_1024_SH5.dds", rework of default "Periscope_Mask_1024_SH5.dds" (..\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\data\Menu\Skins\German\Gui\Layout\) Extract into JSGME 'MODS' folder and enable. Very good Job :yeah:
I would like to install it but a question before : Is it compatible with other mods like "OldStyleSHControls_1_3_1" ? (The two modify the "Page obs periscope.ini" file) Thanks :) |
Sorry, i did a bit of confusion with links..
Thanks for your useful mod |
Wow! Very interesting! It's a replacement not a toggle right?
Wonder if we could make it toggleable? Can you script a dds change while the program is running? |

Thx! M |

You can merge the 2 manually though, this isn't an extensive change: Just search the file for "Periscope_Mask_1024_SH5.dds" and change that to "ObsPeriscope_Mask_1024_SH5.dds". Then drop the new .dds in the right location. (..\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 5\data\Menu\Skins\German\Gui\Layout\) By making the change to the ini, you tell the game to use a different file for the obs scope, normally both scopes use the same one. Nothing else is changed. Quote:
I tried making it a toggle or draggable in SH4, but no succes. I'd really like it as well, since that's closer to what you would have had in real life. Gonna give it another go though, since they split up the menu.ini it's a lot more user friendly. :) For the record: anyone is free to use this and improve on it. Not like I claim any rights to the concept/idea. |
I like it! Thanks.

Any way to make swapings available between neutral and bright orange glasses ?
|
Neutral is just transparant. Pretend the attack scope has a neutral filter in place.
Think the neutral one was just a polaroid filter. :hmmm: |
Thank you Arclight
|
Very nice job, congrats.
But a question : how do we change filters during the game ? Is there a hot key or what? |
Very nice Arclight. I really liked this in SH4, nice to see it in SH5.
I like to have a reason to use the Obscope, and in stock you have no reason. |
I think I noticed the obs scope is a little brighter, like it should be. :hmmm:
Aranzabal; nope, no hotkeys. There's just a (permanent) change to the observation scope. Sets it further apart from the attack scope, actually gives you a reason to use it once in a while. It's main point is to increase contrast at night; makes it easier to identify a ship because you can see it's outline more clearly. That it's historically accurate, to a certain extent, is a bonus. :) |
attack scope ever have filters?
|
You mean historically? As far as I know it was the attack scope that had the filters, and the observation scope did not.
I reversed that because it makes more sense gameplay wise. |
Very good Job :yeah:
