Blockade of Germany
area I have managed to sink 2 Carriers both around the plymouth area
my problem is the 5 ships I have sunk 3 along the red line (Northern Patrol) but have not been credited with any ships:damn: it then sent me to just off Iceland where i sunk another ship:D still no credit:nope: they show on my stats on the Captains page but not on the Blockade pop up Anyone completed this part and have a suggestion it would be appreciated:salute: as i am running out of time to get this one done It ends 1st March and i am at Jan 15 already Wolf |
They have to be warships from what i understand. You're trying to damage a blockade afterall.
I ALMOST completed this. I got the carrier and sunk 4 armed troop transports (which counted), but couldn't find another warship to sink in time. None of the unarmed merchants i sank in the area counted towards the goal. |
The 5 ships you have to sink are 5 auxiliary cruisers. Only those count.

They apparently use the same picture in the rec. manual. Must be the same ship, but one has guns. |
Thanks now all i need to do is find these guys:D
|
look for them at the east end of the red arrow, north of england - I found two or three of them there.
|
The auxillary cruisers are the ones that look like merchants but have a built on deck structure towards the back I'm guessing? Come up as warship contacts on the sonar as well?
I've been sinking those primarily and am about 2/5th's of the way done. It's January, 2 months left but it's a pain trying to find them sometimes lol. Still no luck on the Carrier either. Even infiltrated Scappa Flow and Portland harbors with no luck finding her :( |
Some blockade, all the blockade vessels are hiding. I really am not looking forward to this mission from what I have heard. I have had bad experiences infiltrating harbors in this game.
|
So Auxiliary Armed Merchant Ships count, too? Damn, I better double check the Merchant contacts I spot when they pop up. I sunk two in the area but they didn't count, so I haven't bothered with any Merchant contacts since. Now I know better. I did find and sunk two Troop Transports, which did count, but those seem to be rare...

They'll show up at a Warship contact, not a Merchant. I ran across one steaming along at 17 knots. Looked like a troop transport but it was armed with deck guns. Took some pot shots at me after I nailed it with 4 torpedos and it was still cruising along at 11 knots. As for the carrier, I haven't had a whole lot of luck myself. I figured after I did my patrol near Iceland, I'd head south and try to find the carrier. Found and followed a lot of planes flying around in the area and dodged quite a few 3-5 destroyer group task forces. No carrier though. I'm taking a western approach mission next and figure I'll just look for the carrier then. Regardless of which mission you're on, as long as you get the correct target types in the proper area, you'll receive credit. I sunk 4 or 5 merchants while looking for the carrier, even though I wasn't specifically tasked for hunting in that area. Counted towards the 100,000 limit. I'm figuring it'll be the easiest to do (which is why I was saving it for last) since this was my prime hunting ground in SH4 with OM installed. Once America declared war, it just got better but it was pretty good even in 39. |
do we have to wait until 1 june 1940? until this part of campaign will be finished? because i got them missions done, and i went back to Kiel, and theres nothing going on..so i went for another patrol without specific mission, i tried to load save from before entering port, but that didn't change a thing.

If you click on the mission cross and look at the map you'll see it says to search for the carrier near the Atlantic channel entrance not up near the patrol line. I actually got the carrier while doing the 100k tons missons, now I'm trying to find 5 aux. cruisers. 2 months left.

Here is a spoiler.
Only ships that counts is: Frigate. Corvette Auxiliary crusiers (Armoured merchants) Its a small bug in the description for this mission that does not tell what to look for. Further on in other missions you wil lget a hint what to look for. |
Yup, if you fire up the mission editor you'll see that it calls for Frigates, Corvettes and Aux. Cruisers specifically. There are several mods out for the campaign already (mostly reducing the absurd tonnage requirements), and I've posted a request in one of the threads to edit the strings file for the Blockade of Germany mission to include the valid target types.

Ive updated my mod so it bette reflect what to look for
You can find it here for dl. http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/down...o=file&id=1591 Thread is located at: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=164601 Vikinger |
I can't believe the Nelson does not count towards your goal.:nope:
Seen it twice while going home empty, after wasting time on 2 sunken frigates and an arrmed merchant. |
Kinda annoying searched all night and found two auxilary cruisers.
While doing so intercepted two task forces and sunk two battleships. One with a four torp spread, One hit the armory under the forward guns. The other with my remaining two forward torps. She slowed, listed and sunk 15 minutes later. I must say all this complaiining about the failures of the damage model have me confused. I've sunk maybe half of my 20 kills via flooding. So only the small guys count but two battleships won't help the German Cause? Also what good is this blockade? The Spanish Armada could sail through the damn thing with ease. I spent 15 days sailing the line and those were my only contacts. |
GOT'EM ALL !!!!!
Ran into the first two traveling together and just laid for them to cross my bow. BOOM and BOOM. Two weeks latter about the same spot got another one. Found one in Scappa Flow, but didn't count. Got one outside Scappa, it did. The Last one I ran into was heading away at 20 Knots, I had to use my extreme spped of 21 knots to try and play catch up. I had no more shells left so I couldn't shell him to get his attention from 10 km away. So I had to folow him for what seemed like forever. Then it began to rain and I lost him. I dove and picked up a contact, so I proceded to where the contact was, then dove again for another reading. Found him and finaly got a visual though it was hard with the huge swells and down pour. At 3km distance he still hadn't seen me. I only had two torps left, one bow, one stern. I went ahead full and finnaly got around him and began pulling away from him towards the front. I went to where he was just out of sight, about 1 km now and dove. Quickly turning port to set up my angle on him. I ran to my periscope and to my astonishment when I peered through it, he was right there, perfect shot, no aiming required, no time for orders, LOOSE ! Nailed him at 500 meters. I figured he must have sped up like a Son of A Gun to cover that distance so quick. He slowed down to a crawl, so I knew he was wounded well. I gave the order to spin a 180 bringing my stern to his now burnning hull. I sank him with my last shot. On Feb.29th, Leap year 1940 ( ? ) and one day before the March 1st deadline Donitz put me on. Got the Knights Cross. All this ten minutes after I was supposed to be at work!!!! My boss understands.:D EDIT: Yes 1940 was a leap year. |
Managed to find the 5 aux ships with no trouble. Ark Royal was eluding me pretty well though. I swing south to do some patrols and found her moored in in Plymouth. Moved my way through the destroyer screen and let loose 4 torpedo's on her. All hit just under the main tower and I watched her slowly sink into nothing.
No credit for it on the mission. Refitted and spent another 5 days patroling for another carrier. Nothing :( Mission cleared out and I made the move to Norway. Only mission that listed as incomplete for me was the Aux cruiser/carrier mission :( |
