milkcow or cowships :-P
Anyone know if re-arming Subs/Boats are working in game? just used all my torps on a convoy in the dover straits en route to my patrol area in the atlantic, southern ireland and i don't wanna in back through. i've spoken to radio op and asked for re arm, i just get told no.
Any ideas? |
Do you mean the U-Boot-Klasse XIV (MilchKuh - Milkcow) ?
Nope, they're not included in the game. |
Cheers mxyz. Thought it was in sh5! Ahhhhhh well :-(
|
I would to be able to rearm etc at Sea, everytime I ask the radio Guy he says "Its denied" so I have to trawl back to Germany to refit..although i'm still very early in my career.
I have seen a screen shot of a map that someone on here posted. It showed two Refuelling/Refitting zones of the eastern coast of the USA (Which would make sense). I wish I could remember where it was :( |

I love how they didn't have time (apparently) to add the feature itself, but left in the ability to call for them:rotfl2:!
U-60: Sixty nautical miles from shore STOP Engaged convoy 3 merchants sunk STOP Taken heavy damage STOP Dead in the water STOP Urgently in need of aid BdU: BWAHAHAH, sucker! |

Game Question ..
Sorry if already asked and answered ..
But the plane icons near some ports , I click on them and I see the Range of there cover ?? SH4 , you can click on a Plane Icon and they will come out and do a partol and spot ships or help in attacks .. Are the ones in SH5 supposed to do the same ??? If so how do you get them to work for you ? |
I thought they were in too... aren't they much later in the game?
|
Even if you can't see them, I'd be happy if you just sit in the right spot at the right time and you get reloaded. I can pretend I was sleeping when it showed up :-p. That's the thing I never get about somethings in this game, from a realist perspective. Who cares what depth charge explosions look like, you shouldn't be seeing them!
|
Apparently the only submarines you encounter are a british U class and other type VII U-Bootes i. You can sink the british submarine but I was told, from someone who encountered them, that he didn't get credit for that.
Another bug? |
How are they going to do Operation Drumbeat without Milkcows?

Who has PROOF that there are no milkcows?
It is logical that there are none in '39 or '40. But as far as I know (and note, I also do NOT know for sure!), they will be there - historically they shold be there from '42 on. |
They're mentioned in the loading screen and you can call for them, but as Jander said, maybe there not out there till around '42.
|
If it's implemented, then its model, should be stored somewhere in the Silent Hunter 5\Data\Submarine folder
Refuel at sea should be implemented but probably it's not 3D realtime: ie. you reach a certain area, a screen/message is showed and that's all. |

Since U-459, the first milkcow, was not started building before November '40 they could not have been operational before sometime in 1941/42. |

Resupplying at sea works.
There are Resupply Map Locations defined in some of the campaign projects, I didn't see any in the Total Germany 39 campaign but there were some in Operation Drumbeat. How it works is, if you are in the range of the resupply location, which can be defined using the Mission Editor, you call for a resupply using your radio guy. He will give you coordinates to the rendezvous point. You'll meet with the assigned ship/submarine (again the class of ship can be defined) and the icon to refit/resupply will show up when you are about a few km out.. I tried this by creating 2 resupply locations in the Baltic, my VIIB (!) supply boat showed up as planned.. I waited a few days to see if he disappears but after 3 days he was still there.. There also seems to be a minimum time between refits, because I kept getting denied at my 2nd resupply location.. |
