When is type IX available in career?

What month/year can you use your renown in career mode to obtain a type iX? Or does it depend on your flotilla?

I'm in a career in a type VIIB out of st. nazairre and am getting itchy for a different ride. But don't want to restart another career if a type iX is just another month or two away.

Stock?:
You'll have to transfer to the 2. Flotilla, in Lorient, which should be available on/about
d. 1. oktober 1940.

Good luck, and enjoy the new and improved ride.

tmdgm 02-28-10 08:26 PM

ah, ok. So when back in base, hit that phone picture and request transfer to Lorient? I guess I lose my crew?

It's Sep 41 so i should be able to get the type iX, assuming i have enough renown, speaking of which, how much is it? I have ~5500 if I remember right.

HundertzehnGustav 02-28-10 10:26 PM

7500 for' an IX/B, without upgrades... and no, you can take your crew with you

tmdgm 03-01-10 01:19 AM

looks like it's 6500 for IXB, and 7500 for a iXC. Is it worth waiting for the iXC?

Why?
Is it worth another 1000 renown for a-little extra range, offset by . . .
a-little longer dive time?
Aircraft is becoming very popular with the allies.

I got my IX after my 6th patrol. I was with the 2nd Flot. from Wilhemshaven. I got it end of Feb 1940. It was the B version Though (obvious)

Aye

If your into the Type IX's (like I am) after you've purchased the IXB you may as well wait until the IXD2 is available before changing again.

Sailor Steve 03-02-10 06:01 PM

If you're using GWX and SH3 Commander the IXB is available with a 2nd Fotilla career start from Wilhelmshaven in December 1939.

Threesixtyci 03-02-10 06:08 PM

I thought they were available as soon as January 1940 at Fotilla 2? At least SH3 commander with GWXGold shows one selectable.

edit: beat to it.

tmdgm 03-02-10 07:21 PM

Yeah, looks like I have to wait a little before I get a type iX. I have 5400 renown. I was asking if I should wait for the C since it had i think 3000 nm more range. But sounds like get the B and then maybe the D.

Speaking of renown, how is it calculated? I'm sure there are many historical posts but what goes into it? I use GWX 2.1 with OLCuber. I do play with that green subbie thing that turns red when I'm being detected, all else is realistic except external camera.

Jimbuna 03-03-10 03:32 AM

Each ship/aircraft has a different renown value and that is multiplied by the realism factoir you set yourself eg a ship at 1000 renown

realism at 100% = 1000 renown
realism at 50% = 500 renown.

I prefer to wait for the IXC because it's the one that lets me hang out around tanker alley and stop off in Havana for a cargo of rum before heading home and making a large off the books income selling it on the black market! ;)

The IXB has no problem going there.

The problem is when BDU assigns you to Capetown.
That should, in my opinion, be reserved for IXD2s.

I thought the range would be very helpful for patrolling off Freetown and down in the E series grids but getting a boat with this range means extended patrols in areas with little shipping and usually getting your maiden's head nailed to your coat tails by all and sundry. I've since transfered to Bergen (now 11.43) and am saving renown for a Typ XXI - if I live that long!

STEED 07-08-10 08:48 AM

Stick with the IXB, most successful U-Boat of the war. ;)

Exellent!
