Are you buying SHV

Simple question.

KV 02-27-10 12:12 PM

Just ordered it.

Sailor Steve 02-27-10 12:13 PM

At least two major threads on this subject already, and one of them has a poll.

This makes three.

Or four.

Not voting again, thank you.

Sone7 02-27-10 12:14 PM

I cannot resist..
Nothing to defend myself.

As I realise how bad the OSP idea is, I just still hope they will throw it away after a while...

Iron Budokan 02-27-10 12:17 PM

No.

OakGroove 02-27-10 12:27 PM

Not.

Schultzy 02-27-10 12:35 PM

As soon as perma-net is no longer requred, I'll be donning the white cap.

Rockin Robbins 02-27-10 12:35 PM

Definitely not buying. My computer is my computer and will remain my computer if I have to write all my own software. Even the SecuRom in the Direct 2 Drive SH4UBM is invasive beyond its rights and all it does is scan your running processes for a list of Sony's prohibited software, including the completely benign and innocent Microsoft Process Explorer, just because it was written by the man who exposed Sony's infamous rootkit, costing Sony a huge sum of money.

So what does Ubi do? It jumps completely over to the dark side, confirming what we already knew. Ubi does not respect its customers. In fact, they don't have any customers, only criminals who deserve to be punished.

No thanks, Ubi. I live in a world of limitless possibilities, not in a concentration camp. Lacking the ability to enforce your concentration camp, you are destined to be its only occupant, except for those defrauded by the assumption that they are buying some kind of a fun game. God help them. But you, Ubi, are beyond even His help if you don't buy a couple of vowels. Looks like Sony and Apple have a new partner in the Evil Empire. Rest in pieces, all of you. Not one penny for the Evil Empire.:nope:

Minimap a bit annoying, seems to pop up now and then, probably a system to it, but would ditch it.
...
Where is depth under keel? Time of day (clock)? ok clock is O. Just local time or GMT? Where is compass or course indicator? Date? Have to go to Cap's log it seems.
...
Where is resume course?
...
where is close/open tube?
...
Occasional auto-save only takes a second, but is a bit of a nuisance. Can it be turned off?
...
Water looks terrific. Ditto boat bow wave, wake, exhaust.
...
Map is excellent. But no KM grid refs?
...
Recharging batteries is automatic? Can't deliberately not recharge if preferred?

No, I'm definitely not buying it.

Btw, none of the above was mentioned by Neal in his preview.

Never will I buy it.

And heaven help all those who will go and blindly buy this thing because of "OOhhhhhh shiny graphics".

Méo 02-27-10 12:55 PM

Looks like we're gonna lose a couple of members here (SH5 forum) for the next days/weeks/years. :hmmm:

Yeah! and I haven't help those who are continuously jumping to conclusions and base their opinions on conjectures rather than wait for a real review before making a decision. :shifty:

Egan 02-27-10 01:10 PM

I honestly haven't decided yet. Elements of it I've warmed towards, others I've cooled on. I've got a hot campaign in War in The Pacific going on just now, plus a good game of Stalker:COP. I certainly won't be buying it on release day, anyway, not unless I'm actually walking past a shop with 35 quid in my pocket and see it through the window.

If I do buy it it'll probably be once a couple of patches have come out. I simply cannot be bothered participating in the release day bug-fest once again.

That's because it was not a review of the final game. Preview can't cover everything.

I'll get my hands on SHV after a few weeks. I own quite a lot Ubisoft games and got to know the release version never comes bugfree. After a couple of weeks - maybe after the first patch(es) - I'll go and buy it. But not instantly on day of release. :nope:

Athlonic 02-27-10 04:30 PM

Will I buy it ?

Hell .... yeah !

I dont agree with this OSP DRM thingy but this "Das boot style" of Silent Hunter is a must buy for me.
I would prefer send my 50 € directly to UBIsoft Romania guys but I can't ^^

I hope this DRM will be history after a few updates so we can play offline and anywhere on notebooks.

And I hope that SH V sells well in spite of OSP, if not I am afraid that there will never be a SH VI.

jwilliams 02-27-10 04:46 PM

I will not be buying SH5.

The only reason that I am not, is for the fact that OSP seems to be alot worse than we (me anyway) thought it would be.

Unable to save the game if your connection goes down, c'mon ubisoft how stupid of an idea is that. Atleast put the option to save if connection is lost.

If the reviews are good and ubi fix the not able to save problem (if connection is lost), then maybe I'll buy it (maybe because I want to know more about how OSP hijacks your connection).

gutted 02-27-10 05:49 PM

I'll buy it once there's a crack to remove the online crap.

FritzRommel 02-27-10 05:56 PM

I will also buy it when there is a crack, which shouldn't take that long if the game turns out to be popular.
