I'm with you.

Nice, but exclusive game content (ship skins) for collector editions is just bad form.

That's scary. I remember when stuff like that, and more, would have been part of the manual. I dug up the .pdf manual for the original Silent Hunter recently. It describes the game and controls, a brief history of the sub campaign in the war, and then has an eleven page appendix with the recollections of a WWII skipper. Following that is a section on tactics, by the same commander. The final section is a write up, again by the commander, on the fire control problem and the equations needed to hit a target with a torpedo.

Basically, the manual has stuff that you would need to go hunt down on the internet these days.

Exclusive content in the game I find to be unfortunate. I'm also wondering if this iron box they mention is going to be shaped like a coffin.

Official guide and map???

Woooow, official guide. Looks like you have to pay extra to get a manual.
We got a map and a manual in the normal edition of SH3. What will the normal edition of SH5 have?

The music is easily ripped from the music folder. And 7 skins.... 7? There will be more than 7 skins out in the first week of modding.

Kapitanleutnant 01-25-10 01:41 PM

What a pile of ****.

I wonder what fascinating insights the official guide will contain?

"Shoot the Battleship until its hitpoints reach 0. Then it'll sink!!"

"Dive to avoid aircraft!!"

Hear, hear! Nothing beats those old DOS game manuals. Even Silent Service for the Atari 800XL had a nice section on sub tactics if I remember correctly. Why those 200 page manuals turned into 50 I have no idea. Probably a money thing (as usual).
Nice idea about the coffin but a little morbid no?

HundertzehnGustav 01-25-10 01:53 PM

Haaaahahahhahahahahhahahaha i am laughing SOOO hard!

That map i have had since 2005!

Oh UBI what did you do!
Every SHIII came with such a map!
Every SHIII came with a Manual!
And now i will have to pay extra?

*ponts (censored) finger at the Upper levels of the Ubisoft Hierarchy*

flakmonkey 01-25-10 02:06 PM

Is that supposed to be the "authentic" map??? We got the exact same map for free with regular copies of sh3!
Although if it comes in a nice steelbook case id probaby go for it, im a sucker for a nice box:up:

piri_reis 01-25-10 02:07 PM

Yeah, contents are pretty sloppy.. And stuff that needed to be in the normal game package...

That's what I was trying to figure out. Can anybody tell if this map has the real life grids (like the Aces of the Deep map) or is it the same as SHIII?

JU_88 01-25-10 02:11 PM

Normal version will do me fine - I never buy special additions of any game anyway. :woot:
