Captains awards and badges

The Knights cross with oak leaves seems to be the top award. I have that. But what about the U-Boat War Badge and Clasp? How do I get those? Is there a file that controls my awards? Is there a mod for awarding them?

just install SH3Commander!
a great help in playing.

I have it installed. SH3 Commander doesn't seem to control awards for the Captain of the sub (me). It just lists them. I want to be able to control awards for me. :)

hmm, I haven't heard or read about a way to modify your Kaleu's character.
I'm afraid you just have to "earn" them. :D

From my experience, you will get it eventually... but indeed much later than you'd have assumed.

Panser 01-14-10 04:34 PM

Deputy, you don't say how many patrols you've done or what your tonnage and kills are, though I'm guessing you've done quite a lot to get your oak leaves!
On my most recent career using stock SH3 my captain earned the Iron Cross, 2nd class and the u-boat war badge after completing his third patrol. At the time I presumed to have earned these from passing unspecified patrol, tonnage and warship milestones.

Therefore I would guess that these are related to the number of patrols completed and your tonnage (possibly with a breakdown for merchants and warships), though this is entirely speculation on my part.

many got the badge after the first patrol and some even the "Germand Cross" after the second or third .....

dunno how to help you in this case.

Can the German Cross be awarded to the Captain? I know the crew can get it. But I didn't see a spot in the little wooden case for it.

it's the round one in the upper row

Kimmers 01-16-10 02:46 PM

that's all good, but i never EVER get my u-boat war badge or my u-boat front clasp, how strange eh, and its been three careers.

oh i think i got it once, but it was after i cam in empty handed like twice in a row. Perhaps thats the ticket?

Sgtmonkeynads 01-17-10 07:19 AM

Sounds silly, but in five years of playing, i have only gotten my front clasp ONCE!!!! and that was after starting a mission, then accidently ramming a destroyer in port. Damage was bad enough I just ended the patrol in harbor, about 300 Yrds from where it began. Once the awards screen came up, it said I got it. So, i have no idea how you realy go about getting one. Oh, and wound badges are impossible.

SilentEnemy 01-17-10 12:12 PM

Same problem here :x so far I've done 8 patrols with tonnage from 50k to 200k and no U-Boat War Badge and Clasp medal

Deputy 01-17-10 09:42 PM

LOL....so I guess I'll go hunting for freindlies in port and see what happens :D

There definitely seems to be a problem with the awards for the Captain of the boat. Sure wish I knew what the fix was. :hmmm:

KL-alfman 01-18-10 03:42 AM

in my beginner's career I was awarded with Iron Class II and the German Cross after the third war-time patrol. date was late November39 and I had sunk 68k tons.
I really don't know what triggers the awards ......

Iranon 01-18-10 04:22 PM

In my current career, I got the clasp together with the knights cross (31 OCT 39) and the badge together with the oak leaves (30 NOV 39).

Awards keep coming by the way... German cross and swords for the knight's cross followed, then diamonds for the knights cross, then golden oak leaves for the knights cross.
While this didn't happen IRL (the only recipient of the highest grade was a pilot) this is in accordance with the official RL specifications: a new grade of the knights cross every 100k tons of sunk allied shipping.

Well I just got the Knight's Cross with Oak Leaves and Crossed Swords....for sinking the Admiral Hipper in the harbor. I'm beginning to think that at least some, if not ALL, awards aren't based on tonnage but on TYPE OF SHIP sunk.

Panser 01-22-10 01:54 PM

I've just completed my fourth patrol. For doing so I was promoted to Oberleutnant zur see, got the Iron cross first class and the u-boat clasp after sinking nearly 85k tons of warship (Hood and a very lucky shot on Nelson that missed my intended target), with sufficient merchants to take my tonnage to about 115k.

However:

At the very start of the patrol I saved my game after transiting the Kiel canal, then exited the game with return to base instead of using save and exit. Obviously I reloaded the save to continue the patrol another time, but for my heroic navigation of an inland waterway I was awarded with the promotion and the Iron Cross, first class.

I think this proves that the game just makes it up as it goes along!
