When are you going to upgrade?
Do you think it's worth to wait for the Nvidia 'Fermi'? |

I don't know, what do you guys think? is it worth it? |
My computer doesn't really run SH4 all that well. The connections are AGP, so upgrading is more expensive than buying a new one. I'd like to say I need a new one for something else, but Silent Hunter is really the only game I play all the time, so I guess I'm going all-out for one game.
Silly, but there it is. |
Sir Sober, Medium to high end full system build underway, GPU march. Suitably for SH5 +1 game only. A toast, " To men whom are not affraid to speak their mind". :salute:

I'm in the group that currently has no plans to upgrade the PC at this time.
|
Not specificly for SH5. I need to update my gpu.
|
I only upgrade once every few years or when a card burns out. I always wait for something completely new (Amiga to 486, 486 to P2, P2 to P4, P4 to Quad, Quad to HAL) and then indulge myself with the best on the market at the top of the linear scale of prices (the point just before were prices just get silly). No need yet. Probably 2 years from now. Or more, depending when a good Head mounted display comes on.

One option is missing. "I dont need upgrading because my PC kicks ass"
|
Still have an E8500 core duo, but i see no justifcation to go for a Quad core just yet. The AMD Phenom is attractive - but i cant be arsed with the hassle and expense of needlessly replacing the mobo.
Upgraded my card from a 9800GT to a GTX 275 - but not specifically for SH5. Also done away with WinXp and gone for Windows 7 Ulitmate x64 (and so far i have not looked back) it has also 'unlocked' my 4th Gb of Ram which Xp could not use due to the limitations of 32-bit. Best thing about Windows 7? ... CHESS!! w00t! :D |

I am buying a new graphics card in the range of the £150 mark. I will also need to buy a new PSU, although Dell might mean I can't, which makes the whole point of buying a G-card kind of pointless... :shifty:
|
I use a Phenom II 955 with 4GB 1600Mhz RAM. I think its good enough for sh5, but my GPU is a 8800GT :-?
I don´t know... i hope the GPU is adequate for sh5. Schaun wa mal... |
As I've said five year old system that played SHIII and still plays BF2 well. So due a new top of the range rig in April.

dell uses notoriously slow hdd and the parts in them are all proprietary (not like anything else) so you have to buy cheaply made overpriced "dell ready" parts. build your own and you never need to buy another computer, you just upgrade whatever part you want to later if needed but your not stuck with crappy dell parts. im saying dell dell dell here but the same goes for any prebuilt computers, Dell, HP, Gateway (do they still have these?), they are all good for "basic" needs but if you want a really good computer that plays games well build your own. |
