Is this kinda like Anno 1404 game - ive been playing this game for 3 days straight, man its addictive.:o
|
No its quite different fron Anno.
The only thing I can compare it to is either Tropico (the previous versions) or a little bit of railroad tycoon but only because thats what its roots are. Basically you play the part of a dictator benevolent or othewise of a small tropical island. Trying to keep the money rolling in and keeping the citizens happy or at least under control ;) One of the things that has always fascinated me about this game is that every single 'person' on the island has a personality, story, wants and needs right down to where they were born their education level family ties and so on. You can even read their 'mind' to see what there thinking. Some humorus things in there too like "Im hungry I guess I will just eat rocks instead". One thing that has always bothered me about this game is the issue of taxes. It is more or less glossed over with the sole exception of a 'tax cut' edict which will raise their happiness for a short while (usefull in an election cycle). I'm not sure that the new game goes into that kind of detail. |
How is Tropico 3 compared to Tropico? I loved the first, if the third is just as good I'll use my next couple pay checks to build a new computer just to play it, if its not I'll wait until christmas.
For the most part I've seen 80%'s for the reviews. |
It does pretty good job on staying true to the original. Atleast from the few hours I tried it, it felt mostly as the original with updated graphics.
|
Besides the new graphics, the new dictator character, and the fact you can finally build roads, what's new in Tropico 3?
|
Just a note: if you're alright with digital purchase, check out D2D; it's not region-locked (ie. 1 version available worldwide). Got it a bit cheaper than the offering on Steam or retail. ;)
|
I never played the first 2 to compare but this one must be pretty good. I sat down for about 45 min to test it out and got back up almost 4hrs later!
Stupid addictive games  |

Yea, I never played the first two either. I just finished the demo after some hours. I think I'm going to order it from Newegg (36.99usd and free shipping apparently). Personally, I kinda prefer having an actual disc. Don't know why:hmmm:.
It is a humorous and addictive game. Strangely enough I just saw that this is an xbox game too. Didn't feel like a console game. One of my favorite moments was watching the presidente run up to some rebels and opening fire on them. Balls of Steel, but shortly after that he was seen "Strategically Retreating." Then the rebels blew up a farm and a lot of bananas. Jerks. The only problem I can say I had with it, after playing the demo, is that I couldn't seem to make some plain dirt roads. Just looked weird to me having those nice freshly paved roads winding around. Also, cars going through people kinda irks me from time to time. ps. Nice music, but I hope like hell the full game has more songs. If not, I'll have to make my own playlist of fitting music. |

Got to agree with the roads you should be able to choose a dirt road or a paved road. |
I've never played any of the games but having read this I decided to download the soundtrack to Tropico 2. It's awesome! lol :yeah:

I have never played Tropico before. I wanted the original back in the day but never got around to it (got SimCity 3000 instead). I never got the second one either. I've been reading about it on the site and I have a question. Does it have something like a skirmish or sandbox mode where you don't have to do missions?
|
Yes to sandbox mode, there are "challenges" as well, though the list is empty. Perhaps for downloaded user-created scenarios. :hmmm:
In sandbox mode, you set a number of parameters for the island, click generate, select your Presidente and just play. There are no objectives at start, but there might be random, optional ones as you play, haven't really checked it out yet. |
Thanks for the tip SteamWake. Got Tropico 2 music and it's nice. I also acquired some music by 'Buena Vista Social Club' and it's good. I've read that I should check out Tito Puente too. I remember the name, but I don't think I've ever heard much of his music. I also have these so named 'Cigar Lounge' cd's. There are some gems on there.

Well I finally got my copy (via steam) last night.
All I can say is the graphics blew me away. The demo does not do it justice. The day/night cycles is really nice with some spectacular sunsets. I tried to run with everything maxed and while it ran it was a little bit laggy so I changed it to "Ultra" and it still looks good and runs fine. I really only got to play a short while last night and am still getting started on the first 'chapter' "Fruita's" of the campaign". Not doing so well actually but hey its my first time... heh ... there are some strategic changes from the previous version. The music is okay but limited and repetative and no where near as good as Tropico 2. |
Well crap, just when I was beginning to get back in the swing something has happened.
I went to save a game and it froze up and now I cant start a map  I have some posts over on their 'offical' forums but no response yet. Grrrrrr... Ill keep you posted. |
reason #15235 why I don't like steam
Pain in the butt having to do a complete reinstall. I suspect your save files are corrupted, I would try finding them and move them out of the folder (ie soft delete) them. |
