Saying good bye to a dear friend...

We have a cat, her name is Screech. She is nearly 20 years old and has reached her end she is tired and ready to give up.

She is a beautiful cat with jet black fur and yellow eyes.

She had a very strong will to live and has led a long and good life. She has lived through being hit by a car, attacked by dogs, being lost annd then found yet through it all she still showed affectoin to us.

We 'got' her when I freed her tail stuck in my fanbelt as a tiney kitten. Somehow she dident get killed then and i losened the belts and she ran off. A day or two later she was around again and we fed her and eventually took her in.

Tonight I went to feed her and found her laying in the back yard with erratic breathing glazed and darting eyes. She does respond but when I pick her up she is limp and when I put set her down she flops on the ground like a rag doll. Im assuming she had a stroke or something. She has had some difficulty just walking for some time but always found her way up to the deck somehow and was able to get by and not in pain. But now this is different.

Even now when I pick her up and pet her she purrs but I know her time has come.

We will bring her in in the evening and let her sleep on the bed. If in the morning she is still paralized I will have to have her put down.

I cant express how sad this makes me.

Happy birthday to me /sniff :-?

So very sorry for your loss.

Quote:

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.

There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.

There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Author unknown...
You gave your friend a long and safe life filled with love.

I'm sorry to hear of how your cat is. We have a cat, still just a kitten and he's become such a big part of our lives already that we would be greatly upset if he was not around.

You have had your cat for that long and have become close.

My wife and I (and our cat) are think of you.

We made the mistake of letting our cat Tasos go too long before taking him in when his liver started failing. Do Screech a favor and let her conclude her journey on Earth.

But know this, as Screech knows this too, I believe: Her purpose on this Earth was to give you love, affection and joy. I'm sure she's done a wonderful job in doing this. And in doing so, she has fulfilled her mission. Now it's time for her to rest.

I feel for you, man. It's never an easy thing, but give the poor dear the rest that she's earned.

May your family member rest easy.

Takeda Shingen 07-21-09 07:24 PM

My dog is a member of my family, as I know Screech is of yours. I am certain that none of my words will serve as any comfort to you, but know that you have my empathy in this situation. I was in a similar position with my beagle several years ago. I can understand your agony.

Biggles 07-21-09 08:17 PM

I do not understand how you feel, but I know, that in some years I will understand more than well, since my two cats are getting older and older...

I am so sorry.

Task Force 07-21-09 08:26 PM

yea, sucks to loose a pet...

Buddahaid 07-21-09 08:39 PM

I do know how you feel as I've outlived a few cats. They can really be great friends and you can be very attached to them. Took us almost six years before we could have another after losing three in the space of one year. But here we are now with three and they are black with yellow eyes as Screech is. I hope for good news, but if not, don't wait as long as we did.

I'll give you cat angel of a sort. Some at Ubisoft may remember this as one of my minions after Socko, but it can serve better here.

Sorry about the size. Photo bucket says it's 160 x whatever and it never changes.

I went and hugged my little buddy (my kitty named Girl) tightly after reading this thread.

SteamWake 07-21-09 10:24 PM

I have outlived several cats. At least a half dozen or so.

Screech was more than just a 'cat' she was family.

Yes indeed it does 'suck' to lose a pet, but in this case thats a bit shallow.

She has not gotten better but is paralized from the chest down.

She is still in good spirits and greedely accepted kitty treats with purrs and kitty licks.

Tommorow I say goodbye.

nikimcbee 07-21-09 10:39 PM

Hey,SW
I can't think of anything profound to say other than "I feel you pain." I wish there was something I could do to help with your loss.

This was how I dealt with the loss of Niki last year. I made the video more for me than anyone else.

A year later, It's still painful, so I made this one:

Hope it helps.

Sorry to hear that man, but I must say, I'm blown away by the age! That is friggen awesome to have a cat that can live that long! Probably not the right words you want to hear right now above, but I must also say that it must have been one happy cat with a stress free life to live so long!

Wow, that's harsh. You have my deepest sympathies, SW. If there's anything worse than having a treasured animal companion die, it is seeing it paralyzed, blinded, or otherwise suffering before it goes.

It may not mean much, but I think that all animals die with pure souls, and that they are bound for a better place. How can a God that forgave mankind of all sins through the sacrifice of His only Son hold animals without true sentience accountable for their actions or inaction, as the case may be?

I pray that your pain might be dulled, and that Screech will find peace in the hereafter until she finds joy when she meets you again.

Oberon 07-22-09 08:42 AM

Screech, a unique name, I like it

I've lost two feline brothers over the past three years, the last of whom really fought, right to the end, but his body failed his spirit.
SW, there are no words that can take away the pain, the gap that Screech will leave, but take strength in the knowledge of the years (a good many years at that) that Screech has never gone hungry or thirsty or not known that she was loved. You were there for her as much as she was there for you, and in this final moments, you are there for her when she needs you the most.

Our thoughts are with you.

Oberon, Isis, Nikita, Mishka and Tiggers

SteamWake 07-22-09 10:24 AM

Thank you all for your kind words.

Screech left us at 9:05 am this morning.

She fought a little but really would have no quality of life without being able to walk . A quick injection and moments later she was gone.

I dont think she suffered really and we buried her this morning.

Bye Bye dear friend.

This is not Screech but looks just like her and she did the same exact thing. Reminded me of her alot.

Rest in peace, Screech.
