New to WWII subsims

So I used to play Janes 688(i), and then Sub Command and of course had to buy DW although I never played it. Always been modern subsims. Even tried the virtual fleets for awhile and had a lot of fun. Now I'm thinking of subsimming again but considering the WWII era sims. Any suggestions? Judging by the posts it looks like SHIII is still going strong.

Yes,
SH3 is still going strong and getting better everyday.
;)

There are a great many mods out there and more
released nearly everyday!

If you want an awesome WWII experience get SHIII and install GWX 3. I also recommend SHIV with the UBM add-on so you can run TMO 1.7. With these two sims set up like that you'll be hunting merchies forever! :arrgh!: It is also a great way to truly see the differences between the U-Boats and fleetboats.

Thanks for the welcome. Thats good to hear because I can get SHIII cheap. I would not have thought five years later it would still be going strong. My taste in games seems to be turning towards the WWII era whether it be flightsims FPS or subsmarine.

Are there any online communities that coop or head to head this sim?

Welcome aboard Kaleun Flynn. SH3 is a great game and most questions can be answered here on subsim.

I also used to play 688(i), until I lent to a friend who never returned it.

I'm also vet of silent service's, sub command, aces of the deep, SH4 and many other subsims but modded shiii beats all of them...now i'm addicted.

WELCOME ABOARD!:sunny:

Yes, SH4 is growing, but SH3 is still the best way to patrol the cold Atlantic waters. Play a patrol or two in the stock game, and then install GWX3 for a taste of how good it can get. Also load up SH3 Commander, which will make your career come alive in ways you never imagined.

onelifecrisis 06-10-09 06:25 PM

Just to add more weight to what people are already saying, SH3 + GWX3 + SH3 Commander is definitely the way to play. From there you can add whatever GWX3-compatible mods you fancy. There's a download section here at subsim but it's relatively new; for the moment, more mods can be found by browsing/searching the SH3 Mods Forum or by going to www.bts-mods.com. Or by just asking here for recommendations.

There are a lot of modded games out there but I've seen few transformations as dramatic as SH3's - from video game to simulation, so to speak!
