GWX 3.0 install error

Hiya!
I 'm not able to install GWX 3.0!
First I uninstalled GWX 2.0 and SH3.
Then I installed SH3 (its a Version the Patch 1.4b is included)
EXE Version reads 1.4.0.1
Now is during the install of GWX 3 I run into an error
Any Ideas?

Go into your SH3 folder and look for a MODS folder, if you see one delete it.

Also make sure you deleted the SH3 folder from your documents.

I recall having the same problem and it was the MODS folder

I'm on my mac so I can't post the path..

vulture42 04-11-09 09:45 AM

No Mods folder found...I deleted it during the deinstall. Install shows the same error

Sharkley 04-11-09 10:01 AM

ok uninstall SH3 again and look in the ubisoft folder for any SH3 bits left over.

There has to be something left over from the 1st install..:hmmm:

vulture42 04-11-09 11:12 AM

Mhh I cecked the registry..nothing I deininst. it...all SH3 folders cleaned...nothing I guess its maybe the exe, because I don't have to patch, the patch is already included maybe the GWX installer can not use this one?

Sharkley 04-11-09 11:30 AM

anyway to check to make sure your GWX 3.0 download is not corrupt

Sounds to me like your doing everything 100% correct.:hmmm:

vulture42 04-11-09 11:37 AM

Well, I have SH4 on the same HD...can this cause a problem?

No, I have 2 copies of SH3 and 1 single copy of SH4 all on the same HD

This is a strange one indeed, the reason I had the same error was bits and pieces being left behind from the previous install.

I am really puzzled by this :hmmm:

May try to install in a different (user created) directory ??

vulture42 04-11-09 12:15 PM

bits and pieces > a folder? a file? a path? registry?

Sharkley 04-11-09 12:20 PM

I'm thinking files. I have never had to touch my registry.

vulture42 04-11-09 12:28 PM

ok now I searched everything...nothing left I'll reinstall now.

Sharkley 04-11-09 12:49 PM

Got my fingers crossed for you.

Don't feel bad I am on my 3rd install of SH3 in 24 hours. I am having mod problems, and my game is freezing and/or crashing at loading screen.

Best of luck and keep us posted.

Ok, now I tried to install the game. I used not my game pc, I used my laptop.
A clean XP SP3.
Looks like the install exe of gwx is not able to locate the bin files?!
I put the gwx 3 exe in the same folder like the bin 1-7 files? Any help?

Sharkley 04-12-09 06:05 AM

Try this version of GWX 3.0 Gold

http://www.bts-mods.com/tracker/click.php?id=78

No bin files, just a 1.4g .exe

Hi vulture42,

looks like one or more of the .bin files is/are corrupted. I recommend a redownload of all files [.bin & .exe] and thereafter do a md5 check.

Hi,
ok here is the result:
I downloades the GWX_full.exe (1,4 GB)
I downloaded it twice on both machines (Laptop and PC)
Same error on both machines....
The original sh3.exe (after the install) has a size of 1.331.200 Bytes
I use a retail version (already patched 1.4b). Maybe GWX can not work with this one?
Can maybe someone check it or send me the patched 1,4b exe so I can run a test with this one?

SquareSteelBar 04-14-09 06:11 AM

I got always issues with that single file installer -> wrong md5 checksum.
Did you do a md5 check? The checksum has to be:

d41d8cd98f00b204e9800998ecf8427e

vulture42 04-14-09 06:29 AM

Ok, I 'll check it this evening!

What the best md5 check programm?
I found a few via google...?
