SH4 vs SH3

Ok, I just bought the game and I must say I'm a bit dissapointed. I love SH3 and I think I will return to it, unless someone persuades me not to. In SH3 there was a nice noise meter and other helpful features that SH4 has not. And the new interface is kinda strange. Is it possible to mod it somwhow, to make it more like the old one?

I'm sure now that Admiral Lockwood regrets not including that noise meter on the Gato and Balao class subs. What was he thinking?

Ice cream.

Treat it like a new girlfriend. Find out her nuances. It has a lot going for it. Slide on over to the SH4 mod forums for whichever theater you like. SH4 is a whole different world with mods...much like SH3 was and is:up:

There is plenty of WOW factor in the major mods for SH4.

Looks like he is getting along with SH4 just fine! Give it a good solid try.

Archer - I never played SH3 but I am sure it is totally modded out by now... and in the same way SH3 matured I figure SH4 will too. Plus its great to be in such a mod-friendly environment. Seems like you never know what might be coming next. I may have to check out SH3 to see the differences first hand... but I don't think the first couples of sorties did it justice - at least not for me. However your previous experience with the game line (SH) would most definitely make your entry to SH4 easier than mine... but geez I love it! This stuff is like gamer crack to me... <G> Don't give up too soon.

But then again I must admit to sometimes being rather easily amused... heck, I could stare at breasts all day long and never flinch.

At lower difficulty settings, SHIII had a little sub silhouette that changed color depending on how stealthy you were. It wasn't that useful, except for newer players who had yet to understand that faster = noisier.

I don't like getting map contacts printed on my nav map automatically. Or am I just missing the option to disable it somewhere ?

It wouldn't be a problem if those map contacts weren't so extremly accurate, this makes it kind of boring. I want to approach a convoy, use the map to the best extent in order to get an overview about everybody's position and course but the stupid ships are already right there, magically wandering around my nav map

Also, I'm still quite a bit lost right now. I'm used to the metric system but set SH4 to the american style, yards, feet and nautical miles. Was a long time since SH1, since I used those strange measurements the last time ^^.

And its a shame that you don't find any helpful information about your submarine, diving dephts, speed, etc. In SH3 they used be presented in the manual and at the home base screen IRC.
