August 1????

Why does GWX 3 start the campaign so early? I read the manual and it states that this is so u-boats can reach their patrol areas in time for the start of the war. It only takes a couple of days to reach even the farthest assigned patrol grids. I was so bored that I went in to Plymouth port to have a look see and took on damage due to shallow water. Any explanations?

You start a month early so you can run a patrol and get an extra qualification. You can also sightsee and all that.

If you want to start in September, you can use SH3 Commander to pick your starting month.

Thanks Ace!!!

Takes more than a couple of days to get to the Atlantic from Kiel
Most boats left port around the 19th Aug 39
Some 24th and 25th

The GWX days in port is set to 20
Wanna leave on the 24th ?
Run a 4 day shakedown and then dock

Thanks. I was really confused as to why a whole month was given. I just started over with Sh3 Commander and started on Sept. 1. Wonderful game, will never get tired of it. Where are all the convoys at? Sept23 and no convoy updates yet. Had 1 task force, though.

Convoys are a bit less common in GWX, and you might just be patrolling in a bad area.

Just came across a convoy. Sunk an auxillery cruiser for 11,000 tons. The sunken ship symbol on the map is grey. what does that mean?

i've started my career today on 28 august and wend to polish harbor to check it out, when i got radio message that the war has started i've sunk two mechants and a DD but at the end of my patrol they were noted as neutral ;p

A Very Super Market 02-03-09 06:36 PM

Were they even Polish ships?

And Jazer, check your patrol log. The cruiser may have been documented as a "weather" kill and not yours.

Then the date and radio message files got mixed up. War starts not on midnight, but at some time.

Weiss Pinguin 02-03-09 06:59 PM

I think it's like 2 or so in the morning actually.

A grey marker means the nationality is unidentified. (By the player) Or at least that's what I get whenever I score an underwater kill. (Not a very good chance of country identification from 40 meters depth lol)

Edit: lol double post

Jazer 02-03-09 07:20 PM

It is in my patrol log. Nothing about weather kill, though. If it was unidentified, then will I still get reknown points and recognition? I know I had the ship in the scope, it was one of the British colony flags. Thanks for all the responses.

The correct ship type will show up in your logbook after sinking it, regardless of how you identified it. You'll also get full credit for it.

Edit: Actually, if it is in your patrol log, it should be credited to you. Enjoy your 11000 tons sir ;)

Ive never come across an Aux Crusier once, let alone being able to get a shot at one... weird.

I have however sunk about 8 troopships/liners in my last 3 patrols, 42/43...

PS: When does a type XXI become available, and how much renown does it cost?

Ah, never knew that. Always do my editing in the quick post-type thing.

Mid-1944, costs about 20000 renown I believe. I'd say it's worth it though, but it's not quite as exciting as making your way around in a rusty (Or even a shiny) Type VII. ;) Does give you a bit of a god-like feeling though, knowing you can practically sail around the world without once being detected.

Piggy 02-04-09 01:53 PM

Well Im at 21,000 renown and the date is March 43... If I can survive long enough I'll have enough to get one...:woot:

Surviving is going to be the hard part... :nope:

My last encounter with the river class frigates drove me deeper then Ive ever been...
