On her maiden voyage, U-51 sailed out of the Kiel, passed through the Canal, and then collided with something southeast of Helgoland. :oops: Instant death. Was it a mine, another vessel, or some uncharted reef? I'll never know.

The whole patrol lasted about 12 hours, my shortest ever...

You're right, it was a mine. I checked campaign.scr. :D I was totally unaware of that minefields, I guess the BdU forgot to send me the info. :roll:

The funny thing is that I passed through these miniefields a dozen of times, it was my main route out of Kiel and Wilhelmshafen. :nope:

It was only a matter of time then before your luck ran out!!! :arrgh!:

Better that it happened now, at the start of career, than on the return from a successful patrol. :D

Its all so my route in the beginning of the War.
But i must admit...i never had problems with a mine field, i think its because i never sail to close to land...

Avoid the area S and ENE form Helgoland, up to 30km from shore.

JEEZE.... I got that way EVERY TIME!!! :o Didnt know there were mines there!!

Due to serious lag I try to stay outside the 30 km zones around ports.
Visited Helgoland only once, to see what's to find there.

My shortest career was out of Kiel harbour basin - across the bay - straight into the shore. All hands lost!
Watching all the nice harbour traffic and floating docks in F12, Bernard simply forgot to tell the navigator to follow the "out of Kiel" course.

Some time ago, I wanted to take a little tour of Helgoland. Fortunately some kind soul autokaboomed himself there and posted on the forum.

Good god, I think half the Kriegsmarine have gone through that minefield!

Unfortunately there were far more mines floating about in RL than SH3 can handle
Germany laid the westwall barrage on 3rd Sept 39 for around 12 days right from Dutch coast to the Skagerrak

Of course the German barrage left mine free zones for uboats\KM units to enter and exit German waters so the British - having a guess at where they would be by using known ship lanes would mine those areas them selves hoping the Germans wouldnt know

Be nice to lay all known minefields but game would ctd for most as so intensive
