AOB Made Easy... video by me!
in light of the AOB help thread.... and the many that came before it, i have made this video.

There's another easy AOB finding method, if you know the target's course. Set your course perpendicular to the course of target. Set your periscope or UZO to the bearing 0. Set the AOB to 90 and make sure you have the TDC turned on before you move the perisciope. As long as you maintain the course, and have the TDC on, you will have correct AOB for any ship moving on the same course. Good for convoys. :yep: |

I think it is there. plus a paper plotting tutorial I had LONG forgotten about :lol: so if anyone is also interested in doing plots on paper, there is a decent starter method. |

one process that could be used
1. Observe target through scope 2. note bearing and range 3. plot the bearing and range to target on a piece of paper 4. after a few minutes make a second observation of bearing and range 5. plot the second observation on paper 6. then calculate target speed based on distance covered and time it took 7. AOB could be roughly estimated 8. shoot something like that i was feeling a bit "loopy" so the pink panther music felt appropriately goofy :lol: i was going to put in something all dark and haunting for music but i decided to throw you a curve |

The real guys just looked at the target and estimated AOB - and i think it's just not that hard to do in the game after a bit of practice
however with the earlier monocular periscope German kaleuns also used the aspect ratio in conjunction with the split-prism stadimeter to calculate AOB, a method simulated in the U-jagd tools mod plotting was not so easy without a good aob estimate because getting accurate range estimates at long ranges was not so easy - you didn't know the exact mast-height of the target so plots may have taken a long time, and you didn't have automatic map contact updates either. But knowing aob can help with the long-range plot a lot, and again the aob is best guestimated by looking at it |

one thing: maybe a noob who watches this might think that the 55 degrees on the protractor is enough to set up the shot. I didn't catch you inputting it in either the attack plot or the periscope notepad. But then of course it wouldnt time right with the torpedo impact on the end of the score :) edit: never mind, the vid assumes range and speed already set so adding the aob is a technicality ;) |
yeah... its just a quick AOB calculation method, someone brought the "aob help" thread back from the dead, and its not the first time i have seen the need for AOB help so i thought i would give it a whirl.
i woudl like to do a full firing solution demo... however OLC has put a really good one together for his GUI mod |
