How to remove SecuRom Virus?
Hi I recently installed a game "BlackSite" that had SecuRom protection, all I get is a black screen after the ad screens so I uninstalled it, damn thing takes up 11gig HDD space! Anyway now I can't remove SecuRom from the register::nope:
http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h2...cuRomVirus.jpg Damned virus, can anyone tell me how to delete this key please?:yep: |
Hi Reece,
give this a go (found this on a other Forum about how to remove Securom from your registry) 1. get this registry cleaner... http://www.shura.totalcmd.net/download/trashreg.zip 2. install or run it 3. click FILE , then click on FIND KEYS WITH NULL - EMBEDDED NAMES 4. it'll show you the SECUROM - CANNOT DELETE ME key 5. just delete the key 6. DONE! I'm surprised that securom is allowed to dig itself into the registry not removing itself after unninstalling Securom itself. Weirder yet, I've heard they infested Demo's with securom too... Well, can it be any worse than Starforce?
|
With this economy let them shoot themselves in the foot.:p
In the past month I've bought enough games from ebay and half price.com to mod and last me a lifetime. So screw'em. |
Thanks HunterICX, I have registry cleaner but last time I ran it my system died, lucky I had a ghost image to restore, I'll give this version a go!:yep:
Thanks. |
In a related note:
http://news.cnet.com/8301-13772_3-10050717-52.html EA hit with class action suit over 'Spore' and this is over their use of SecuROM Personally, I'd love it if AVG classified it as "Malware" officially. |

I'd like to add... While I don't condone " Borrowing" games I didn't pay for , EA and others need to disclose to customers it's setup and no secrets.
In the end it hurts them as much as us. |
Dosent the box have that Info about this stuff on it?:hmm:
|
I doubt it, but most games don't even use SecuROM..is what others beside EA use this?

Thanks hunter I forget where I once downloaded it a while back and accidentally removed it.
 here I found this, http://reclaimyourgame.com/index.php...d=68&Itemid=40 Here's an article on Rootkit removal, http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/ref...it_removal.pdf http://www.antirootkit.com/software/...oval-tools.htm |

Well I fixed it, thanks to all.:yep: I gave up on BlackSite, there are many games with bugs, but that's by far the worse ever!:nope: What a waste of a whole day!:damn:

The easy way:

The reason the entries are corrupted and hard to remove is it contains information (key info) on how long you have had an application on your machine for example, or anything else having to do with a particular app. An example is an app says you can run it only for 30 days as a fully working demo. If you removed those keys from your registry, all a sudden you can run that same app again for 30 more days. This is why they make it hard to remove - they don't want you doing that. -S |

Maybe this suit will do what the devs of BioShock figured out on their own: remove all the restrictive crap. They released a patch that allowed unlimited installs of their game. |
People were getting banned from the EA fourms because they were complaining about this stupid thing they put on this game from what I heard. I am guessing that this stuff makes it kind of like renting the game.
|
Yes they are getting bad, I read on an expansion box to Crysis that the game expansion has to be activated online to work, this is even worse crap, what happens if the company goes broke or loses interest in the future?:x the disk (and game) would be totally useless!:damn: I will not purchase that!!:stare: Bad luck if you live in the bush without an internet connection!:-?
