In spite of the fact he has invited O to debate in open forums several times and denied.

I'm no McCain fan, but I hope you remember those words in November.

McCain is dangerous, politically. He has an awful lot of Americanist crap to throw at Obama and Palin was a political masterstroke, whatever her abilities.

A masterstroke of BS which seems to be the path of this once great nation. Cicero once said that for a nation standing at the abyss of corruption it is too late.

Anyhow, change can be made with bullets.

Thinking that any either Obama or McCain is not a master of BS is evidence that we do indeed stand at that edge of that precipitous drop.

This was a real silly move for McCain. The financial crisis is not happening all at once, it's been unfolding for over a year. The numbers he's worried about are poll numbers, and this move might give him the "above politics" shine that he so badly wants and so does not deserve.

Maybe, but at this point people may see it as a move of desperation. Folks in general don't seem to be to happy about bailing out Wall Street.

Anyway I can't see any reason why McCain can't multi-task and do both. Both candidates have their own charter planes if they need to rush back to Washington.

Looks like one big stunt to me from McCain. Signs of a man in desperate trouble. Even the Palin buzz is starting to fade.

I'm with Steve, McCain is just trying to jump on the latest scare in the US media to score points with the punters. Clever move but transparent to all but the hickest hick. ;)

One would think that as President McCain would not have the luxury of saying "OK I'll drop everything to work specifically on one problem." Surely the job is about solving multiple problems almost all the time.

I just wanted to add in that people here in Mississippi are PISSED about him trying to dodge the debate. The state has spent a ton of money getting the town of Oxford and campus of Ole Miss (where the debate is to be held) prepared for Friday night. A LOT of effort and planning has gone into preparing for this debate.

All moves are political ones. ;)
That's democracy's big advantage and it's big failing.

Talking about motives other than votes is, at best, moot.

Just saw this on CNN that McCain campaign proposes that the VP debate be delayed. What on earth next? Delay the election. ;)
