Game Companies ? ? ?
This is a No Brainer but you never know. :p
Which Game Co. Do you LOVE :D or HATE. :arrgh!: Short reason why is also welcome. PLEASE no Essay's or Long winded storys. |
Old school Micro Prose- They for the most part made fun, quallity games.
|
This is my list of current game companies that impress me:
Matrix Ageod Storm Eagle Studios Lead Pursuit XSI Digital Combat Simulator Tripwire Interactive Thunder-Works I know some of them haven't even released a finished product, but they are the only people out there producing "high fidelity" combat fastjet sims. PD |
Tripwire Interactive and Taleworlds are both good at customer communication.
*Edit* Ahh! I'm the second person to up TW! :D |
TSR (The original)
West End Games Avalon Hill (The original, not the bastardised version that Hasbro has made it) Matrix FASA Compas Games Clash of Arms Avalanch Press Fantasy Flight |
I think that HPS Simulations deserves mention as one of the better game publishers. Their committment to their products is the reason that I say this. They continue to support & update their games that are in some cases 8-9 years old. They also respond to emails very quickly (often within 24 hours) if you encounter a problem with one of their games.

Any hated companies?:hmm:
I think every Sierra game I bought (old school sierra) had some pretty bad bug issues. |
Old Dynamix. Those people made some of the best flight simulators ever, and they were ALL unforgettable. I still play Red Baron 3D to this day, and I'm not planning on retiring any time soon.
|
The Czech company Illusion Softworks, today called Take2 Czech I think, have been an interesting company. Many of their games are WW 2 era shooters with attention to technical accuracy and good sounds.
|
EA is alove hate relationship.:dead:
|

Old Microprose Activision Raven Software Capcom Konami THQ Bullfrog Hate: EA Sports Tiburon |
Even with only 11 posts this is a fairly good cross section of this website.

Love Bethesda Softworks and PopCap. Won't purchase anything from Obsidian.
|

Hate:
Every game company that tries to intimidate or threatens to sue testers and game magazines over ridiculous, off-reality charges, when these do not award the game the demanded good score. Latest examples for this way of policies are Atari and Konami, who in the imminent past have done like this with regard to several online game magazines in germany (and Norway). Affected were alone in the Dark, and Metal Gear Solid. An enlightning explanation why print magazine tests, the last time I checked them years ago, already back then were so totally harmless and most forgiving, even deceiving about obvious bugs, weaknesses and bad sides. Intimidation and threatening to cut advertising spendings seems to pay off in getting your game ennobled. |
Oooh, Mafia was a really good game, can't wait for the sequel

I abhor Storm Eagle Studios for putting draconian copy protection on a game that I really wanted to buy. How many frickin' pirates(let alone normal people) are interested in the Russo Jap War? Seriously, come on and wake up JR. Jutland better be ALOT more user friendly or I won't buy it either. :damn:
Loved Dynamix and Red Baron 3D  Loved SPI quads |
RIP - "Looking Glass Studios"
I quite liked the "Thief" series. |

@ Skybird Alone in the Dark comes out in two more days, yeah? Looked interesting, but I doubt I'll buy it. Might be worth a rental, but I want the full game; I don't want to have to constantly download new "episodes" to continue my journey. Alan Wake looked cool, but Microsoft, being the money-whoring b***ards that they are, is only putting it out on the 360 and PC (and even on the PC you have to have Vista!). @ em2nought I know how repetitive this copy protection gets. Crytek is using it as a scapegoat so they can deny regular rights to buyers of their products, SPORE is going to use SecuROM, BioShock did use SecuROM with limited installs (they removed the three install limit just a few days ago; go crazy!), and Mass Effect's fiasco with SecuROM has become one of the largest game controversies since Hot Coffee was leaked for Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas back in late 2004 (just months after it came out). I cancelled my pre-order for SPORE. I'm not buying a game that installs a copy protection that can phone home even when my Internet connection is UNPLUGGED. Screw EA and Maxis. I thought they were different (Maxis, anyway), but I guess you can't trust any one of 'em today. Piracy is going to ravage that game, and when it does, I'll join in. Hopefully they get a "doctored" version out without SecuROM. |
