Loading saved games on patrol 4 cause "Send Error Report"?
tuddley3 from Ubisoft's own forum said that I should post my question here. Here it go's: Whenever I try to load a saved game on patrol 4, while loading near the end of the loading it gives me, "Send Error Report" every single time. I can load any of my previously saved games on patrols 1-3 work flawlessly. I have started over three times on patrol 4, sooner or later my saved games in patrol 4 just go's to hell/crashing with Send Error Report. I am not running any mods nor do I know anything about mods, I like to keep it simple. I don't see how 1-3 could have gone so nice, and all of a sudden it just craps on me like this. Surely someone else has had this same problem, I just can't believe that Ubisoft's own forums had no solution to the problem!! So I ask for your help before I toss this lovely game, I can't believe Ubisoft kicked me to the curb!

Take a look here:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=109293 Some tips.......... Folks seem to have luck avoiding this nasty bug by making sure they save only when on the map screen. It also seems to be good measure to name each save individually. For instance I use WP 1-1, WP 1-2, WP 1-3....etc.... War Patrol 1 save 1, War Patrol 1 save 2........ Nasty bug. I haven't run into it since I've adopted the same precautions, but it's still to early in my second career to tell........ |
P.S.
Welcome to Subsim. Good bunch of folks here. |
i always double save games with one named "quick save" so if i mess up i can recover it. after restarting game if the quick save works ok i save it as my regular save point.
its also possable your maxing out your temp file storage on your drive. when was the last time you did a disk cleanup and cleared your temp files? |
My HDD is kept very clean and I defrag sometimes twice a week (75% free space)depending on how much I play. I name my saves mission save 1-10 in each patrol, but save over them all sooner or later. I have a pretty powerful PC, I have AF 16x, AA 8x everything max out and still running fast frames per second. The thing that gets me is every one of my 10 saves becomes unloadable after the crash - Send Error Report. Lastnight someone showed my that my short cut has gu.exe instead of sh4.exe and traced this to many problems and bug causes over at Ubisoft's forums. He said that after patching 1.4 his short cut changed from sh4.exe to gu.exe. What does yours say?

i did a new install to use 1.5 so i never loaded 1.4
the files im talking about are the temp internet files not storage files and the disk cleanup utility will purge them. you can decide how much space is used by your computer so its not about how big your hard drive is. they fill up as you use the computer so a large download or large game save can fill it up with a gig or two of data which could, i repeat could, have a slowing down effect on game saves and if it needs more room it dumps some data to make room for new data. its mainly for storing copies with all the details of web pages so they pop up faster, it doesnt have to ask what to put where because it already has this info stored in the temp files memory. its also how the computer can start right back up at the spot you paused it without reloading and without missing a beat, thats the temp files storing all that data but as the name says its temporary so it changes by what your doing. if you've got a up to date system it should be fine though. |

it will take the original sh4 v1.0 game and update it all the way to v1.5 without needing to install any other other patches. (for $10 you cant beat it) as far as a setting to use for the temp internet files the default setting is 1024mb or 1gb 1gb is fine but it would be good to clear it before you play games that take a lot of memory. (ones with large save files) sometimes its set to a lower number to help a computers speed if ram is limited, when i only had 2gb of ram i set mine at 512mb and it helped me a lot. sometimes mine is full and sometimes its not even though it doesnt feel like im doing much but a few downloads and a little websurfing can fill it up quick so it definately wouldnt hurt to clear it before playing games. maybe what happened to you was somehow related to that large saved files bug thing? i never heard of more than one saved file being corrupted all at the same time. |

well i still dont see how that should effect anything else but the last save.
are you sure you havent recently installed or uninstalled any mods? or used the silent 3ditor to open a file? the 3ditor can sometimes mess things up if you arent carefull, its a great tool but it still has a few minor bugs still being worked out. |

cept 1.5 did mess up a sweet save....over 1,000,000 tons too:damn:...half my 3/4 of the crew were LT's |
This needs to be a sticky in all forums!
Yea, Yea! I have just comfirmed why my saved games has been getting corrupted. I purposely saved War Patrol 4 Saves 10 and 11 while being very close to a large shipping convoy. I then exited to Windows and tried to load both War Patrol 4 Saves 10 & 11 and got on both Send Error Report. Saves 1 through 9 were uneffected and loaded them without any problems at all. This means overwriting a previously saved game that was near other ships starts all the loading issues in SH4. The first three times I started over, I would overwrite other saved games countless times.
So this means I saved my games on an already corrupt save that had ships near by, and by overwriting it caused the newer save to be corrupted to. I have deleted both 10 & 11 saved games to prevent this god awful thing from starting anew mess. What we need is for someone like a mod to duplicate what I have done and maybe include this in the next patch. UPDATE I have just duplicated this problem again on saves 10 & 11, saving near a shipping convoy. Now I/we know for sure what causes some of the loading issues in SH4, if someone else can duplicate what I have done that would only benefit everyone. |

This is getting ridiculus!!
Well it seems I'm having trouble again in patrol 4 with the saves getting corrupted only after the 10th save, before save 10 are ok. It seems if I go to an area where there are not a lot going on my saves tend to be ok. When you say not to save with contacts (ships nearby) near, do you mean all those square map contact updates to? You never really know how many ships are nearby if you are not detecting them, Ubisoft needs to fix this bug like a year ago. One should never have to constantly check each save just to be sure your saves are ok, this is a pain in the....!

This is getting old fast!!
Damn this problem loading saved games seems random or something, why am I having all the problems? I have waisted countless hours tonight on this unfinished product, on save 10 which is fine I get to hear my officer repeat "torpedo missed Sir" over and over and over and over and over!!:damn: I am doing everything suggested and its not enough to keep from getting bad saves, I save my game on the map screen with 0 ships anywhere near me and still! :nope: I cannot go on like this, something must be done before I continue waisting my valuable time. All I ask is for a product that works, its no secret that when this game first came out that there was an up roar of thousands of people complaining about SH4 being broken and unplayable. How many people believe that by uninstalling and then reinstalling the game will fix the problem?
I have another question: Because I didn't adopt the suggestions about saving with no ships nearby early on in the beginning of playing SH4, you think thats why I'm having problems now? In War Patrol 1,2,3 I did save a lot of the time with ships very close to me and was wondering if thats affecting me now. Anyone have anymore suggestions before....? |
