Do you still play DW ? How often do you come here ?
Since the activity here is somewhat small, let's see how we stand.
|
still play or more often 'mod' DW...even eager to write new tools like a sophisticated 'Quick Mission' generator.
Since this is the main forum for DW; I often visit it. |
Came from 688(I), then SC followed by DW, but ist over a year I played my last multiplayer game.
Lost interest. |
Finals, graduation, and bar review have kept me away for about a month. But I'll be getting back to "work" and MP this week, hopefully.
|
University, some small jobs...
I visit the forum almost daily and I'm about to finish a third version of my satellite mod (without release date, the job is done, but it's already not tested and I have no time to do it on the next days). Seems that everybody is waiting the next LwAmi... :hmm: |
I may not play every day, but I play DW often (And I sometimes play DW and SHIII at the same time on two different computers). I come here and check the boards a couple times a day at least.
|
I play DW almost every day, it seems this game will last for some years in my PC, its really amazing.
I came here once a day Cheers |
I visit the forum almost every day and play DW on a weekly basis.

Getting married and real life work schedule as kind of limited game time, especially for such an intense game like DW. I remember SC reached a plateu in it's mod features, with the SCX graphics, Sub Changer, and the enhanced realism from SCX II. It was just so polished. I'm wondering if DW will reach that same polished state...

We already have actually analogue SCX for DW, and even moreover...:|\\ |
At present SHIII takes most of my gaming time, but in between I fire up DW for a quick mission here and there. I still play SC as well, these are games that won't leave my HD anytime soon, if ever. I come to the forums almost every day.

Hey, I'm relatively new to DW. Bought it about three months ago and installed the LWAMI mod just the other day (which seems to make things look subtly better, though I have yet to learn all the ways it augments gameplay). I play DW a couple of times a week, and it's the only thing I play on my PC these days. I just bought a mic too, and issuing voice commands to my virtual crews is like the nearest thing to heaven for me. I also have SHIV, but haven't played it in months, due to irritation at UBI's epic fail with this title.
I love DW and am sad to see that I seemed to have picked it up long after the DW community's more vibrant, earlier times. |
I enjoy the nuke boats, but I find the game is too scripted, It would be an awesome game if the patrols were more dynamic in a fictitious war scenario. I just get bored with inserting seals and things like that. Make a game like SH4 but bring it up do date.
|
I believe that there is an experiment underway to create a dynamic map for DW. Of course it's not the ENTIRE ocean like in SHIII, but it's not bad. It's more fun MP than Single player though. They have a pretty darn dynamic mission for the download. Be sure to read the docs included with it before playing it.
See this thread: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=107019 Where DW really shines is Multiplayer games. |
I haven't even installed it on my new computer. DW is fun, but I haven't played it for a long time.

While it's theoretically possible that you could create a whole multiplayer campaign in DW in a single mission, it would be impractical to play because of the transit distances requires without the use of time lapse; also consider the rate of disconnects and CTDs with no way from dropped players to log back on. If you want DW to represent a campaign, the only way to do it that approaches being practical, is to have a human being manage the big picture and create DW matches that are representative of the tactical battles the big picture leads to. |
About the dynamic campaign issue, Silent Hunter 2 didn't have one and nonetheless some intrepid modder (or modders) did one (I think you can still download the mod from subsim).
Why can't we make something similar with DW ? There is no need to have a dynamic campaign that spans the whole world, concentrate on a specific theater, like a china vs taiwan scenario. With american and russian subs also. Something like that. We have a powerfull editor, and if I'm not mistaken there is also the possibilty to playback videos from the breifing screen (like in sub command) so why can't we do it ? ;) |

Why creating a tool and don't use the editor? The editor is good but a generator has more possibilities like creating specific mission doctrine files, more randomization and automates tedious things like triggers to simulate message traffic and so on. The next step could be a campaign generator (technically not a problem). But to be honest: I don't think, that this will be happen. I'd be happy to have a generator, which is more varied and sophisticated than the original quick mission generator. |
