Oh ffs! BF109 'Red 7' damaged AGAIN!
Pretty old-ish news already, but just found this today. I remember reading about it's last mishap it had few years back when it was damaged and had to undergo some repairs.
Now, on 15th of April, it had it's first airshow flight after the accident back in 2005 and the friggin gears didnt came down! There goes the prop, engine most likely needs some work and definitly a new paintjob. STOP RUINING THE OLD PLANES FFS! :damn: http://img180.imageshack.us/img180/9681/11982837aa2.jpg |

Ouch! the pain.... but lucky the damage is easy to repair:yep: check what happend back in '97 to BF109 G-2 ''Black 6'' a landing error: http://img158.imageshack.us/img158/525/lrg1545uq0.jpg HunterICX |
Might be easy to repair, but it will be costly and the owner had his doubts on whether to repair it back to fly condition back in 2005. :-?
Aye, read about the Black 6 too today. I bet everyone who has flown or flyes an BF109 will have his nerves tight on landing. You gotta make a nearly perfect landing or the undercarriage will bend and SLAM! |
You lads can answer this I am sure. How come replicas are not made\used ( safe, reliable, etc ) vs. what goes on in these pics. Is it cost to build one, or is it more that folks don't want a replica, they want to see the real deal in action.

But of course, for example the 'Red 7' doesnt have it's original Daimler Benz engine anymore. And I'm sure the 'Black 6' has parts of it "rebuilt". But yes, you have a point. A replica would be much safer, as you could have fail-safe systems built to them etc. |

As you can see I don't get to many air shows  I would definitely would go for the authentic sub. RDP |
Well, I have never been in an airshow, so... NO WORRIES! :rotfl:

I did see one of these at the last show I was at , a CF-18 Hornet :D Not a classic, but still cool to see it up close and in flight. RDP |

parts that where damaged, worn out or dont work properly anymore are replaced with newer parts, rebuild thanks to the old blue-prints ofcourse but a pricey job as it mostly must be custom made. mostly the Engines are replaced, but heck what else you expect after 65 years? also its safer as there is less chance of engine failure in flight. but I'm glad that they replace it with a somewhat similar engines. but still the ones that are flying is just amazing, for me they beat the New jets anyday. check the Tribute thread, we mostly post tributes made with footage of the warbirds that still fly today  HunterICX |
Nice. I dont think we have any big airshows in Finland, especially any with WWII planes. Tho, IIRC, we have 2 Messerschmitt 109s in museums. :hmm:
EDIT: The one at Utti http://www.virtualpilots.fi/feature/...3/HPIM2022.JPG EDIT2: And here's the one stored in Tikkakoski, the MT-507. Last flying 109 of the Finnish Air Force. http://www.adlertag.de/bilder/Mt-507.jpg |

Breaks my heart. 'Black 6' going to China. :nope:
http://www.warbirdsresourcegroup.org...es/lrg1543.jpg I think we are all familiar with these landings from IL2. |
I was about to say..too bad there is no HE111 flying about...
well at least in this footage of a B17 tour you see one HE111 taxiing http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFcszAzfIvg and that one was the LAST flyable HE111 before the terrible crash from wikipedia: Quote:
