First Heath Ledger, then Roy Scheider, now Charlton Heston. Another God in acting and cinema has fallen. He died just before midnight. Turned on the TV to CNN and they had a thing up on him. Real shame, but the man was 83 years old. Now, Planet of the Apes, Hamlet, Midway, and Ben Hur won't seem the same... bye, Chuck.

So, can I have his guns, now?

Seriously, another marking personality goes. What's going on with this year? Is it the International Celebrity Die year or something?

:o oh dear, this is very sad.

I guess, but Chuck was old and was not well at all, or so his family stated. The funny thing was, Planet of the Apes was on just yesterday on AMC, and I watched the entire thing... bit ironic, but hey, it was the same case with Ledger (watched A Knight's Tale five days before he died) and with Scheider (watched Jaws three days before he died).

Maybe you should stop watching movies, then? Just in case? :rotfl:

Not really; it just seems that way. Many years ago my then wife and I purchased an encyclopedia set, and every year we got the yearbook, and every year I was amazed at how many famous people died; people whose names I knew.

You know a lot more famous names that you realize.

Still, I'm gonna miss ol' Chuck. My dad used to live next door to Heston's sister, and got to have dinner with 'Chuck and Lydia' a couple of times. They talked enough that my dad and stepmom got invited to their son Frazer's 25th anniversary.

That leaves reading the paper, getting on Subsim, playing games, and using the bathroom... oh, and eating. It's not fun to be qualified as a senior.:-? Very boring. While I am happy to be old, I'm not happy that life has become so dull.

Sad news. I hope he died peacefully and with some dignity. :cry:

When someone like Heston, who I consider an movie "icon" passes away, it's like a piece of my own history is gone... I felt the same way when Bob Hope passed away too. These were both guys that had impressed me with their lives and accomplishments.

I figure I'll start with Tom Cruise movies... then I'll move into Hannah Montana films. After we've hit these two strongpoints, I'll assault Britney Spears and Paris Hilton. If luck holds, they'll all be dead by the end of the year.

Just stay away from the presidential debates!;)

I really liked him in Soylent Green which even today is a warning of a possible future.

Sad to see Chuck gone. I bugged my dad like crazy to take me to "Midway" in the theater with the sensurround. First movie I can recall seeing him in. Second movie was "Gray Lady Down". Later on, I saw all the other ones he's most remembered for except "Omega Man". Might have to rent that.

Mr. Heston was surely one of the greats. With the immortal sci-fi works of the 60's he starred in, I spent many an enjoyable Saturday afternoon glued to my television. The ending of "Planet of the Apes" is one of those classic moments that will stay with me until the end of my days.

Seeing him as Moses and Ben-Hur was an Easter tradition for T.V. networks before "politcal correctness" made "God" a dirty word.

I'd like to think his last words might have been, "Get your hands off me, you damn dirty reaper!".

Hm, it seems finally somebody higher has removed the rifle from his dead old hand indeed.

I'm sorry, but that speech back then has spoiled my image of him in my memory forever. It's the first thing that comes to my mind when hearing his name.

but to do him justice, some of the films he made were really good. Especially "The Big Country" with Gregory Peck, Jean Simmons and Burl Ives is one of my most favourite of the old western movies ever.

I was thinking just the same thing while watching the item bout his death on the news tonight.

Its a shame but I think he will be remembered by many for his NRA and political associations first and his acting second.

There as a good Heston film on UK tv not so long ago, Khartoum. Great film about general Gordon with Heston as Gordon and Lawrence Olivier haming it up as the Mahdi, brilliant! The climatic scene where Gordon is killed has always stayed with me.

Conversely his NRA activism was what made me and many others really appreciate Charlton Heston as something more than just a mere actor.
