How to increase screen resolution??
Hi all.
Is there any way I can increase the screen resolution to 1280 x 1024 from the standard 1024 x 768??:hmm: Do I do it through my Nvidia Control Panel or some other means??? Thanks in advance! |
|
Thanks bud!
Much appreciated:up: |
I have read the instructions and done what it says.
Have tried to open the CFG file but am being told that I cannot open it to alter the files?? Any suggestions? |
Sorry but I can't.
It should be a notepad file - d3d9.cfg located in SH3 parent directory. It's always worked for me with multiple installs. I can only imagine that your file is corrupted somehow. Good luck, U2222 |
ok mate. thanks anyway.

These instructions apply to Windows XP... Vista is slightly different.
1> Find the D3D9.cfg file in your Silent Hunter 3 directory. 2> Right-Click the file and select Open With... 3> Choose 'Select the program from a list' 4> Scroll down the list to find Notepad 5> At the bottom you can choose to "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file' - this means any file with the .cfg extension will automatically open with Notepad from this point forward. |
GREAT!!!
Thanks Zantham!!  Thanks to everybody for your input!:p |
Is there another link or something because the site seems to be suspended.

As installed, SH3 doesn't offer you a choice for a display resolution setting. The game fixes it at 1024 x 768. To override this limitation, SH3 modmaker Kegetys has developed a DLL file that permits greater display resolutions when playing SH3. Kegetys' SH3 Resolution Override DLL can be downloaded from one of the following links: Mirror 1 (http://koti.mbnet.fi/kegetys/dl.php?f=dx9res10&e=zip) (http://koti.mbnet.fi/kegetys/dl.php?f=dx9res10&e=zip) Mirror 2 (http://www.paulwasserman.net/SHIII/dx9res10.zip) (http://www.paulwasserman.net/SHIII/dx9res10.zip) Mirror 3 (http://www.filefront.com/?filepath=/...ectX9Res10.zip) (http://www.filefront.com/?filepath=/...Res10.zip)Make sure you read the enclosed instructions to customize the DLL's configuration file, d3d9.cfg. For Windows XP SP2 users: We're not finished yet. In order to get Kegetys' DLL to work, you'll also need to install Microsoft's Windows Application Compatibility Toolkit (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro...y/default.mspx) (http://www.microsoft.com/technet/pro...y/default.mspx) and perform the following procedure to customize it for SH3: On Windows' Start menu, select "All Programs/Microsoft Application Compatibility Toolkit 4.0/Tools" and run the Compatibility Administrator. When the program opens, make sure "New Database" is highlighted under "Custom Databases", and click the "Fix" button. In the "Name of program to be fixed" box, type "SH3". Now, click the browse button, and select the sh3.exe in your SH3 install directory. Then click on the "Next" button. Under "Operating System Modes" select "None" and click the "Next" button. In the "Compatibility Fixes" box, check DelayDLLInit, and click the "Parameters" button. In the "Command Line" box, type "d3d9.dll" and click "OK". (You can click the "Test Run" button to make sure it is working). Click the "Next" button. Click on the "Finish" button. Then click the "Save" button, name it "SH3", and click OK. On the "File" menu, select "Install". Close the Compatibilty Administrator. Enjoy SH3 in high display resolution. I did it exactly as you described, but with no results.:hmm: I can't check it now, because I must do GWX beta tests without any modifications of the game. (Disclosure - this was posted by another subsim user originally (I think it was jaxa)). |
Thanks for that, I appreciate it. I'll try to see how it goes.

For whatever reason this doesn't work unless you can run a given resolution at 75hz refresh rate or higher.
My screen is set at 1680x1050 but will only run at 60hz refresh at that setting. As soon as I drop it down to a resolution that can use a 75hz refresh it will work. |
Hi,
I don't know why you guys bother with "Microsoft compatibility toolkit" for XP SP2 :hmm: This is no more useful, don't need it anymore. I can't remember who exactly to thanks, but make a search for : "SH3_XPSP2_Res_Fix_for_1.4b" here on those forums. I use it and work very good with no problems. I'm in 1680x1050 wide screen ( 60hz), SH3 looks awasome  |
Thanks for the info!
|
Unfortunately the res fix doesn't seem to work for 1280x1024 monitors like mine...:damn:
|
Simple question, what is the SH3 directory? and where can I find it? Thanks
|
If anyone can help, I just bought a new wide screen monitor, and would like to change the game to a hi-res, I have a windows XP computer, I also cannot find that D3D9 config file. Thanks for the help.
|
You can download the files needed from the mirrors listed above. I just downloaded them, but am unsure as what to do next to be honest. Is there a tried and tested method of doing this? Would be very nice to run GWX 2.0 in higher resolution!

Hi guys,
Here it is : http://files.filefront.com/SH3+XPSP2.../fileinfo.html I really don't know who to thanks about this file ; If you (creator of the zip) read this --->  Part of the readme : " Just copy the two batch files and the SHIII.sdb file to your SH3 directory, and run the "SP2 Res fix.bat".(I've included a batch file to uninstall the fix should you ever need to.) I've included the d3d9.dll and d3d9.cfg in case you don't already have it. Thanks to Kegetys for dx9res10 and to +G for the idea of creating this zip. " After the files are in SH3 directory and run the batch file, open : "d3d9.cfg" in notepad, you should find some text with this : resX=1680 resY=1050 useFiltering=1 enableScreenshots=1 screenshotPath=. This is the content of mine. Change the line : ResX=xxx // ResYxxx like you want and enjoy. And , again, SH3 looks awasome !! I was first a bit disapointed by the change, but quickly , i was so happy, LOL !! |
