What Breed of Cat Please?

Hi, 6 months ago I had to take one of my cats to the vet to be put down after a snake bite that also caused him to go blind, yesterday I took my other cat in as it had an ear infection that turned out to be cancer & had to have her put down. I am a cat lover & this particular cat was a good friend always following me where ever I went, a very good companion, anyway I thought I would get another cat & always wanted one such as:

or:
http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h2...Catisthis2.jpg

Does anyone know what breed these are, the second looks a little like a scottish fold?:)
Many thanks.

The big (or should i say fat :D) guy on top looks like a "Kartäuser"http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bild:Kartaeuser1.jpg http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kart%C3%A4userkatze as we name them here - sadly i don't know their english name, maybe "Chartreux". They always have this steel-blue plushy skin and are usually quite tall. You cannot go wrong with this cat as they are usually calm and adherent and have a nice character. There are also British Shorthair with this color but they are smaller ...

Yes, i also think that the lower is a Scottish Fold.

I'm sorry Reece, but I own a Alaskan Malamute wolf. We both kinda don't like cats, I kick them and the wolf eats them....but I must say, I dont mind the look of that big smokey grey cat, nice looking.

(only joking about the kicking).

Reece 10-13-07 06:27 AM

That's ok Venatore I kick dogs but there ya go!!:yep: ..... Just kidding I shoot them ..... just kidding again!:smug:
Thanks Lurchi, I will look into the name, it may not be available here in Australia & if it is it maybe way too pricey!!:D

Takeda Shingen 10-13-07 06:54 AM

I am not really a cat lover, but I know how I feel about my dog, and she is a member of the family. I am very sorry for your loss.

Reece 10-13-07 07:51 AM

Thanks Takeda Shingen, you don't really know how much you get attached to pets untill something like this happens, I live in the bush & cats are a must really for the rats, mice & yes even the snakes, better the cat than one of my grand children! But yes it still hurts!
Cheers.

Reece, a double blow that must of hurt big time, sorry to hear that bad news I know how it hurts. I like cats as they are smart not like a dog at all try throwing a stick for the cat to pick up and the cat looks at you as to say you threw the stick don't look at me.

Reece 10-13-07 08:12 AM

I know what your saying Steed, Dogs have masters & Cats have slaves!! An old saying but quite true!:yep: I try not to think about it now, the last thing the vet said is would you like to say goodbye, all I could do was say no & swallow a few times, trying to tough it out, grown men don't cry, maybe not but I got close!!
Anyway enough of this bad news.
I am looking forward to finding a new kitten, my wife says I'm an old softy!:yep:

Reece, you have my sympathy on this. I lived out of the way of civillisation with my Cat for 18 1/2 years and was broken hearted when she had to be put down, couldn't cry or listen to music for weeks, I was so numb.
I had her cremated and kept the ashes and also have an online Memorial to her ..

Reece, I found the Memorial a great help, something you could maybe consider ?

I used to have a cat that would fetch rolled up socks... bring em back and deposite them right in front of your feet and patiently wait for you to toss em again... I think he was a "Tabby Retriever".... :know:

Reece, that's a British Shorthair

My heartfelt smpathies as I am an animal lover and don't want to know what my emotions would be if I lost one of my family members'

Agreat memorial to your cats would be to go to the Animal Shelter and adopt a couple of cats.

They need homes and love too. And as you know will give back unconditional , unlimited love. Go do it. Now.:)

Yes I could, the ones I had were from people dumping them, when I moved here I had to contend with around a half dozen stray Toms. 3 years ago I was attacked by a feral cat, it was howling and walked bold as brass to within a few feet away, I thought it must be tame so I put my hand out & the bloody thing lept on it!:nope:
My hand was badly mauled & infected, I ended up in the hospital for over a week, I now have arthritis in my left hand, no kidding!!:yep: Probably why I would like an indoors cat now!!

Thanks MookieMookie, I did find that out, the one in the picture is a little overweight, it happens that my son works with the daughter of a British Shorthair breeder, I have asked him to find out the cost, I'll bet it's a few bob, the animal shelter may be the next stop! I stipulated (if I can afford it) that it must be blue!!:smug:
Thanks all.

Sorry to hear of your sad loss Reece....but top marks mate for maintaining your fondness after the 'feral' experience...good on yer

FIREWALL 10-15-07 10:44 AM

My best friend's sister and mother rescue feral cats and find them good homes after they get them healthy and people friendly.

It's amazeing how they seem to accomplish it.

I hope I see a post soon that you have two new family members. :yep: :D

HunterICX 10-15-07 11:04 AM

:D I've a british Short hair too

but..she has a manual thought
after been thrown as a kitten by some dumb kid of a other family and decided to put it in the shelter as that dumb kid wanted a RED cat! ffs:nope:

thus we took it before they brought it to the shelter
scared she was, she didnt came close to us for weeks...after that..well we could touch her...but if you did it on surprise or she didnt see your hand first...you could lick your fingers for sure...
now...you still need to be carefull in the aproach and she still has a thing for strangers that she stays away on a distance...
and she is a very strong lady ;) when a petdoctor though she could grab her in the neck and take a look in the ears..she turned her body around...bited her thumb...and from elbow till hand she opened up with her nails....
so....now she is in the computer as ''Extremly Dangerous'' (good girl!)
she didnt listen to the advice that she had to take some gloves first.....before grabbing...

anyway...now she even sorta talks :D
she replies when you say things to her...
but she is a strong healthy lady.
if I get home I will see if I can find a photo

Our cat strayed into my girlfriends house two years ago, and has followed her around this town, 3 house changes in all :)

She doesn't fetch socks, but she does destroy my shoelaces.

The cat, that is.

lesrae 10-15-07 03:32 PM

Sorry for your troubles Reece, I dread the day our cat leaves us. She's very similar to your pics, but as a rescue we've never quit found out what make she is: British Blue, British Short Hair or whatever. I'll post a pic when I'm back home.
