When I was 12 my Skipjack model, backyard pool = sub action!! :p |
So Far SH3 is my all time favorite............
|
Silent Hunter 3 since GWX was put out, til then I would have to say the Silent Hunter 2 would have been the game to beat. There is still life in the old girl yet. Still so much you can do with it. But with GWX mod the play and graphics cant be beat for SH3.
|
SH3 + GWX by far!!! Aces of the Deep was pretty good too, as for SH4, when I get a new GeForce card and an extra gig of ram it may knock GWX off the top but it will be a hard job to do.....
|
It's a landslide.:rotfl:
|
started with SH2. and when i got SH3 i fell in love with it (GWX or not)
|
Yes it is. SH3 is far and away the best sub sim I've played. Still haven't played with GWX, but the version I was running when forced to quit was so heavily modded there probably isn't a whole lot of difference, except the new ships and of course the redone Canal. I also haven't been able to play SH4, but I'm betting that by the time I can there had better be an option for two choices at a time; it looks good.
Now if the poll let us actually rate them... |

I have to say SH3 is my favorite, especially since the release of GWX. SH4 is good too, but I'm more of a U-boat fan. Aces of the Deep was great back in the day, but it can't really compete with the latest games.
All votes for SH3 so far, but then this is the SH3 forum. I wonder if posting the same poll in the Silent Hunter 4 forum would yield the same results? |
As GWX is not in the poll as SH3+GWX I am not voting. :arrgh!:
|
SH4 , to bad this was not in the SH4 Threads, may get some more support :yep:

Wow...it's a blowout!
You can almost see the tumble weeds rolling through the other choices....lol!
SH3 is by far the best subsim out there. :yep: |
SHIII with GWX hands down is by far the best I've seen and played. Even SHIII with just a bunch of mods is fun to play. But GWX puts you into the sim more than anything I've seen. As Walter Conkrite said... "You are there!"
To be honest I've been fiddling around with SH4 more than SHIII lately just to get the feel of it and see what Patch 1.3 can do to make it more playable.... not much as far as I can see for me. But you have to love the SH4 graphics just the same. ;) I never played SH or SHII because of the bad press and what others had said about them, so I stayed away from both. |
This is not to be taken as neglect of sh4 I just have left it unloaded
until im finished my sh3 projects so my opinion on sh4 isnt properly formed yet. that said SH3 with GWX1.03 is far and away the best subsim ever for detail, realism, AI, comprehensiveness, research, and possibly the single greatest accomplishment in Freemodding history all games. M:|\\ |

In time SH4 will be great in it's own right, it is still barely 5 months old. There are some great things happening with it :yep: I am just content to have both theatres to sim in:up: RDP |
well its a bad option to compare silent service with silent huntet 3 dont ya think???
but as far as "dates" are concerned the silent service should win hands down. up to todays dates then SH3 GWX wins hands down. so just to be awkward Silent Service for me due to their brilliant prgramming gor the era. |

Fair I sure had a lot of fun at it hours and hours and hours strangely I had an affinity for surface attacks using guns against the escorts back then too. |
I miss the old days with Hunt for Red October...or Clancy's Red Storm Rising or SSN...
sigh..... |
I found this quite a difficult choice, because I have enjoyed many subsims e.g. the likes of Silent Service, but they are from a different era so really can't be compared with today's subsims. At the time Silent Service was around any dedicated subsimmer would have probably said it was the best thing since sliced bread like we are saying SH3 is today. I also enjoy the modern subsims like Sub Command and Dangerous Waters (why isn't DW on the list!!) and have spent many enjoyable hours in my 688i or Seawolf trying to track enemy subs or surface vessels to achieve the mission objectives.
