Best Sub?

This has probably been addressed before, but which Sub do you find to be best, and why?

Feel free to link to previous answers. At the moment, i'm using a Salmon-class, but thinking of going to a Tambor-class. Thoughts?

Well objectively speaking, the Balao should be best! It's got the most torpedoes and tubes, fastest speed and longest range (on par with the gato, anyway), and a diving depth waaaay greater than any other sub in the fleet.

I like earlier boats myself, like the Porpoise (in part because it reminds me lots of the Type IX that I'm so used to in SHIII) and Salmon.

100% Balao fan

Thanks for the advice. Is there something you can refer me to that has all of the submarines capabilities laid out empirically (sp?)? I'd really appreciate it.

Once again, thanks to the community for answering all my dumbass noob questions

Read me file of Trigger Maru

If you look in the mod forum, you'll find a sticky to the Trigger Maru mod. That read me file lists a few performance measures on the various sub classes.

And here is a link with some real world data that you can use to compare.

Note: Not all subs listed there appear in the game.

The Balao is the 'best' sub, but for fun, the S is sure a challange.

wetwarev7 06-25-07 11:13 AM

I like the Salmon the best. I dunno why, probably because it's a 'middle of the road' sub. Challenging, yet handles well.

Bando 06-25-07 11:49 AM

I absolutely, tottaly looooove my "S" boat:up:

Wild_skipper 06-25-07 12:31 PM

50%Gato and 50%Balao like them both :up::up::D

Ay, mainly because it is slow as buggery

longam 06-25-07 12:47 PM

Balao all the way.

I was in shallow waters and some DD’s (I think) were doing a search pattern toward me and I out ran them to a deeper area while at periscope depth.

humesdog 06-25-07 11:27 PM

the S sucks for an end around on the surface but it is THE most maneuverable and fastest boat underwater. Didn't appreciate that until a DC experience in the shallow phillipine waters. It saved my butt.

I find this sight to be really cool, especially because I like lots of pictures

S class is the real mans boat. :p

CptWilkins 07-15-07 02:13 AM

Which is better out of a Sargo and a Salmon? I can't really spot any major differences

Also, could someone write out for me, with Balao at the top and the S-classes at the bottom, where all the subs fit in terms of technological superiority?

Thanks, and sorry to gravedig.
