Scared of GWX
Ok, after completing a campaign (well, really I was sunk) with stock+patches I think I'd like to give GWX if I can run it. I just installed SH3 Commander and looks pretty cool, but before I get GWX I'd like to know if you guys think I can run it somewhat OK, here are my specs:
Vista AMD Turion™ 64 X2 mobile technology TL-56 at 1.8GHz 2GB RAM 120GB HD NVIDIA GeForce Go 6150 (UMA)with up to 288MB shared video memory I can run Sh3 just fine, with some slow downs in port, and also if a ship is sinking and there's a lot of smoke, not too bad though, I can always go to the control room and not watch it sink :) Anyway, I would appreciate it if you could let me know if based on the specs is worth for me to download and run GWX... (I hope so!) Thanks a bunch! |
If you can run SH3 you can run GWX as well
my specs are: 2.8ghz 512 DDR ram Geforce FX5700LE 256 MB running GWX with average FPS of 35 slows downs in port and close to explosions. furthermore....it runs smooth enough |
It is recommended that for GWX your PC meets the RECOMMENDED system requirements of stock SHIII. Cant say for sure how much the impact on FPS would be with GWX, but the team has tried very hard to keep it in minimum.
It never hurts to try, right? ;) (That is if you dont have über slow internet :rotfl:) |
Give it a try, you can always go back to what you have now.
|
You should manage fine kaleun  :arrgh!:
|
I run it with 512meg and a 2.4 Gig processor just fine. A little jumpy when it gets on the NAV screen close to convoys but other than that no problem.

god ive wanted to say that for a long time:rotfl: :rotfl: |
The real reason to fear GWX is how easy it is to die. Looks great, plays like a $50K fiddle. And will put you on the bottom tryin' to grow gills if you don't pay close attention.

Ok, I am sold!!:D I am starting to download the files, taking a long time despite cable modem though... patience, patience... So once the files are downloaded, run the exe and ready, right? Oh, and I guess I need the files for SH3 Commander users... I hope I don't botch the install!! Thanks guys!

Glad you have done it! You will be blown away by the improvments that have been made to the game. Your rig should work fine with game.
Your only regret will be that you didn't change sooner:doh: |
Then play wAC or NYGM.
|
play NYGM... WAC isnt somthing for you
|
Just stick with the GWX. :p

This is my current rig:
Abit KN9SLI MOBO AMD 64X2 Dual Core 5200+ 4 GB Dual Channel DDRII RAM@800Mhz Nvidia Geforce 8800GTS Audigy 2 Soundblaster And I still get crappy framerates if there's a big explosion, with lots of fire and smoke  But, like was said before, if your rig can run stock SHIII, it should be able to run GWX. |

I only have a P4 3.2 & a X800Pro (rest is the same) and I play on full AA/AF and still never drop below 50-60FPS in high traffic areas (apart from ports - 25-30fps) or during explosions. If I crank up the rez, I still never drop below 40fps. There is something holding your system back.:yep: Two suggestions, first make sure the MOBO sound is turned off in your BIOS settings, even though you are not using it, it still draws system resources. Second, have a google for information about AGP/PCI aparture sizes. Some of the newer MOBO's automatically downsize the aparture's of GFX card slots. There is a program to do this automatically for you but the name escapes me at the moment. The only other things to do are end all non needed programs and regulary defrag your HDD's. |
Ok, one word: WOW!! I installed GWX last night, and fired up a new campaign, sailing off Kiel... through the canal... didn't get far because the wifey wanted the laptop to watch Lost, but boy just in the 30 minutes I was playing I was already impressed, the sound inside is awesome! Can't wait to be done with work, get home, play with the kids, put'em in bed, and fire it up again!!! This is great, thanks so much!!
