Do we really need a Rambo 4???

I think this is a 'wait for DVD' type of movie.

Is that a trick question? Did we really need the first three?

Chock 05-23-07 04:28 PM

I guess this one ISN'T going to be 'Dedicated to the gallant people of Afghanistan' like the last turgid pile of crap was, now that they are back to being the the bad guys (like they apparently were when they were fighting the Russians that had invaded) instead of now, where the Yanks and Brits have invaded...

:D Chock

Tbh, I've been waiting for this. I miss the good old action flicks of Stallone, Arnold, Bruce Willis etc.

Like Rocky, like the original Planet of the Apes, like a lot of movies, First Blood was an interesting concept, ruined by all the sequels.

Chock 05-23-07 05:25 PM

I think they should go for an off the wall concept with it...

Rambo, having been indoctrinated into the Mujahadeen way of life, following his time spent fighting alongside them versus the Russians, is now a fully-fledged Islamic fundamentalist.

I can see the trailer now (Engage movie trailer deep voice) This summer, one man, and only one man, is going to make a difference. He's taking out the trash in downtown Guantanamo. To rescue his Muja buddies that everyone else left behind... Cue Stallone soundbite: 'Allahu Ahkbar Muthaf*ck*r' Cue Rotor Blade noise... Fade out. Rambo 7, Rated R.

:D Chock

Yep, not to mention Stallone is 61. Kinda old to be running around the Burmese jungle ripping off heads.

Camaero 05-23-07 07:09 PM

I won't even rent it! :nope:

Polak 05-23-07 07:36 PM

Asking if we really need Rambo IV, is like asking if we really need oxygen. :D

bookworm_020 05-23-07 09:06 PM

Do we need another Rocky?? "Rocky V and Rocky II equals Rocky VII "Adrian's Revenge"!

Now that is like asking if we need water to live.:D

An other heavy title that is on the horizon is Die Hard 4.
We've got a new Rocky sequel, will will get a new Rambo and Die Hard sequel.
What more do we need?

Frau_Phillips 05-23-07 09:53 PM

Hey, I liked the new Rocky! I could have done without Rocky 2...3....4...and 5...but the new one was good!

I'm not sure about Rambo. I may be a chick, but I can get into some pretty heavy stuff (current favourite movie - Apocalypse Now) but I dont know that I can take some beefed up guy killing stuff for the heck of it.

EDIT
Wow, my avatar is really masculine. I'm not sure that I'm comfortable with that. And I KNOW Rich isn't comfortable with that. I mean, I'D hate to wake up with that dude in bed.

Polak 05-24-07 02:56 AM

I agree with you, sequels never are as good as the original movie titles, but I like it when the storie continues.
I would never compare Francis Ford Capolla's Apocalypse Now, which also happens to be my favorite movie, to any movie title from the Rambo series.

The Rambo movies are more comparable to the Die Hard trilogy, they just show pure testosterone action, and that is never wrong. :D

Bond, James Bond. He can survive even sequals..

I like the first Rocky & Rambo.

Of those i miss Bruce the most, and he is getting old too. Harrison Ford was tough and Clint Eastwood had the biggest balls of them all. We need new heroes.:hmm:

Vin Diesel, The Rock, Jackie Chan?? I dont think so:nope:

I have started to collect old series - partially very old series - on DVD. The new films and series since a couple of years are too crappy in design and acting as if I could bear to watch them.

that's the bad thing with yearly movie awards: they give the impression that something was worth to be awared, since the award has to be spend in a given year. It says nothing about how that movie-year compares to an earlier one. Sometimes you have more good movies in a year than there are awards on a festival, so there are more loosers than winners. In other years the awards go to movies that do nor deserve it, compared to earlier winners.

So ein Stuss!

The new type of Action heroes cant compete with the old
as Vin Diesel, the rock have a attitude issue. its that attitude thats a knock out.

give me the old, silent brutes that just blast everything in their paths

AntEater 05-24-07 05:45 AM

Problem is, the old Superstar of the 80s is dead.
Not only in movies, also in music and any other entertainment branch.
Today, you have guys for specific target groups: Vin Diesel for wannabe violent white kids, a black guy (can't think of anyone specific right now) for "black" audiences etc, Jet Li or Chow Jun Fat for asians or generally Kung Fu inclined people...
The 80s action heroes were pretty much for everybody.

Actually I had expected Rambo to return, but I had supposed he was to return to Afghanistan, maybe to fight against his allies from Rambo III...
But apparently this was politically too hot, so they sent Rambo into one of the few states on earth that has a regime generally accepted to be evil...
