[REL] Map Table Mod 1.0
MAP TABLE MOD 1.3 READY! for SH4 Made By CAPTAIN COX 12 JULY 2007 Renders REAL WWII NAVAL CHARTS at the map table in all submarines. Small graphical tweak for v1.3. (you probably wont notice, but the reflection in the "BULB" (forrad table now has "SUB REFLECTION" ) Also changed the report pad with REAL Patrol Report excerpts. Included NEW Pinup Girls as well as i was at it (41-45 guaranteed) I tried to tune the "Christmas tree" lights, but so far I could not get it looking right, I think there might be another layer in play. Will keep looking and will update the mod if I get lucky. Install: Simply use with JSGME If you don't have it get it here: http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/software/products.html Enjoy! DISCLAIMER: This mod can be included or used with other mods or mod packs under the condition that CAPTAIN COX is mentioned as the creator in the readme as well as in any release forum post related to the mod or mod pack that includes it. If you still need to contact me as to regards of above disclaimer please contact me at Captain_Cox3@hotmail.de Or PM me at www.subsim.com As I have made the textures "HI-RES" due to visual quality of the maps, the files are bigger then the originals. Holy ... :o
Beautiful! But what else could we expect from you?;) |
Keep going man! You do some great things with textures and visuals:up:

Would like to add that this was the most FIDDLY Mod i ever have done. This is due to that the "table veneer" texture is used also for the framing of the table. This means that if you put the map anywhere on that surface it will show up on that "frame". Now each sub (4 interiors used for all) are all different. So you have to try, go in game, unload the game, move, load up the game, check, unload, move, load, check..and so on...TAKES FOR EVER I tell you. Anyhow, the best way would have done this using the actual 3D map that is in the game and clone that, reposition it, re texture it and ...well, you get the picture. I might give this a shot when i am more confortable with 3D modeling.

If anyone made a pool today to vote for fav. modder, that would be you, man!
Thanks for your efforts AND your time! THIS IS SPARTAAA! |
Will wonders never seace? :o .....
Not with the Captain in the house!...thats for sure! Thanks for the HARD work. |
Wonderful !

Superb!!!
|
Nice work!
|
one word..... SWEEEEEETTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!
|
Great job!
EDIT: one thing I noticed is that the patrol report texture you use is shared by the two sheets of paper one sees near the bottom of the sonar station. I'd suggest replacing this texture with something more "universal" like the original, such as a radio frequency list, possibly. |

-weather conditions over the past days / estimated sunrise & sunset times -intelligence summaries on naval assets operating in the area (something both the OOD and sound man would want to know), i.e., "25 June 1943: COMSUBPAC reporting heavy concentration of warships in South China sea," or "Buildup of friendly forces imminent in Volcano Islands area for major assault." -something else I've not thought of yet, but someone else may. :D |
Great ideas man!. If and when I get more in to the 3D side of things I will look in to also replacing those "2D" maps with cloned 3D ones. Then we don't have the prob of interfering textures on that table.

I have one for you too CaptainCox. Very minor, but just wanted the credit for finding it....:rotfl:
In the sub that is used for the training missions....(the Porpoise class?), in the conning tower, on the floor in the corner behind the sonar man is a wooden crate on the floor that uses the same texture as the map table. You'll see your maps and ruler tool images wierdly broken up and pasted around the top framework of that crate. This is like an easter egg hunt! No worries though, you won't be able to do anything about that one, and it's a great mod! I can definately live with those small quirks. Here's a pic... EDIT: Actually I suppose a fix would be to create a completely new .dds with just the wood grain, than assign that new dds to the 3dmodel of the box, instead of the .dds for the map table, yes? http://www.MayhemOnStrings.com/Images/BOX.jpg |
Yeah the wood texture is used elsewhere. It was a nice idea but I was afaid it might mean textures appearing in the wrong places.
Some thing I noticed when I was modding these textures last week.. All the different subs clip the MapStrat texture differently.. but you can resize that texture so it is smaller than the clipping, it gets slightly stretched but fills the allotted area nicely on all boats then. I am using a Philippines map taken from..http://www.jha.jp/kaizu/q_o.htm While it looks new (and is new) you can desaturate the colour and make it look older. http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/3...2968px1.th.jpg I prefered it with colour though. Plus it has a little japanese on it too like a captured chart would, and several boat used captured japanese charts cause they were more accurate. On the interior textures, the japanese writing that appears on on some panels can easily be editied (I did mine to OPEN /CLOSE) though I dont know what the Japanese means, also on that texture, there is a lens texture used on the periscope but it has a massive refelection of a tree in it... yet there are no trees... I found a texture from a camera website made a nice replacement for this.. I would upload, but I am on dial up so can't. If anyone is desperate they can PM me and ill upload it while at work next week. |
WOW...never seen that compartment :p. Yea to add a new texture would of course be the ultimate thing to do. I am trying to work up my skills in 3DS MAX but there is also some serious HEXEDITING involved to do that stuff. Baby steps i guess ;)
@Jace11. looks really nice man!. Could I ask what dimension you stretched that to?, as i think that map dimension changes depending in what sub interior you are. Does that trick work in all? |
Well done Captain.
I am amazed at the quality of your mods. The great thing is that you dont just tweak files but add quality new content to the game , elevating it to what it should be. I cant imagine how you find the time to do these mods and still play the game. :lurk: Above all thankyou for sharing your labours. I just feel sorry for the people who havnt discovered subsims forums and are stuck with the stock sh4. |
Captain Cox-
Dude, this mod looks fantastic. I'm downloading now. Thanks for all the hard work! Tom |
