All I can say is, look north. Greenland, near the whaling stations. I found mine by hydrophone, identified as a single merchant, stationary. They're out there.

Kaleu. Jochen Mohr 05-04-07 08:45 PM

what do you mean with whaling stations ?

You'll only see the icebergs if you're using one of the supermods, such as GWX, etc. If you're just using a vanilla install of SH3 with minor mods, you won't get icebergs in the campaign. You WILL see some on single missions, however.
:lurk:

Check far north on the map, there is a couple of places identified as whaling stations, usually in allied control....

hang on. You are running GWX arent you?

Kaleu. Jochen Mohr 05-04-07 09:00 PM

GWX and WAC

Ok, well look up at the north of the map, there should be a whaling station or two (I am in 1940 at the moment), I essentially went to within about 100kms of the whaling station closest to England, then began heading roughly south west via greenland onto the Halifax convoy route, hydrophone picked up the iceberg contact just south of Greenland. If I could find an online version of the map with grid refs i could give you the grid ref it was in!

rb4door 05-04-07 09:38 PM

can someone in the know post up a pic of the chart within the game and circle the likely areas to see a 'berg?

I am also very keen to see one :yep:

As far as I know, GWX is the only mod that fixes the icebergs. IIRC they had spawning problems... and definately had no functional propulsion.

Thanks to Ref, Cdre Gibs, and Rubini we fixed 'em.

rb4door 05-04-07 10:39 PM

anyone have any screen shots of bergs to wet my appetite?

CNemo 05-04-07 10:41 PM

This is from when GWX first came out:

Been using GWX since it was released and still only seen IB's in a mission never in a campaign game. That's why I'm sailing out of Bergen at the moment.

It might be worth payrolling in grid AJ ;)

TarJak 05-05-07 01:28 AM

Thanks Jim I'll take a look around up there. Got waylaid badly by huge quantities of aircraft on patrol one out of Bergen. Playing GWX 1.03 in early '43. Still I managed to bag HMS Victorious so it wasn't all bad.

Jimbuna 05-05-07 02:28 AM

Don't forget to take your favourite bottle along.......to go with the ice :D :()1:

TarJak 05-05-07 03:09 AM

Ice in red wine? Never! Though I may take a few slabs (24 bottle cases) of beer with me for the trip.... hic...:dead:

I caught an iceberg on the radar once in mid-43 off the coast of Halifax. It was a foggy day and the radar show a target. I follow it only to find out in the last possible moment that it's an iceberg. Thankfully we avoided Titanic, although we did get really close :yep: :|\\ :|\\
