its been 25 years!

All remember the Gen Belgrano and the souls lost with her

kurtz 05-02-07 10:39 PM

Remembered...With grim satisfaction.

Good old days of the RN.

robbo180265 05-03-07 02:52 AM

RIP all the poor souls lost on her.

Jimbuna 05-03-07 06:09 AM

RIP

The irony is though, the Belgrano was sunk with WWII era ordnance

wireman 05-03-07 06:35 AM

Appropriate for a WWII era ship though.

Jimbuna 05-03-07 06:45 AM

In actual fact that is why (because she was armour plated) unlike modern naval vessels :yep:

Yes, I believe they were Mk.8 straight running torpedoes. Three were launched and two hit the target.

I think it s sad actually. She was an allied warship long time ago. I think there is a sad think in selling warship to other country after wartime.

.....and sadder still that she is opposing the very ally she once was on the side of :arrgh!:

And tonight it sleeps with the fish. At least it didn't die under a cutter's torch.

Nostromo 05-03-07 07:15 PM

Serves them damn right, what did they think was going to happen when they invade British Sovereign territory.

On that note, Hi everyone!:arrgh!:

Yeah, going down with 320 people is definitely preferable :-?

Your welcome kaleun :arrgh!:

The real shame is that many soldiers perished for their country only because someone decided that an action was needed to distract people's attention from the internal affairs. The RN and the Argentinian Navy guys did what they had to do. In General Belgrano only the military government of Argentina should have gone down with it by then, not so many young sailors who were just doing their duty:down:
