Anyone have transparent heads with 1.2?
On the bridge, I notice that I can see the waterline/horizon through the lookouts heads. Anyone else see this?
Feature or a bug? Thanks. |

Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't. I think it has to do with ambient fog, even very light fog will make them see-through. Or did. I haven't noticed it yet in 1.2 but I might have just missed the fog patches.

If you have fog turned on you will get this.

I have fog off and environmental effects on ... and I get them. nVidia 6800 GS

I've seen it in 1.2.........it's gotta be a feature, either that or UBI is selling pirated versions of their own game :p

Tranparent heads? I have had this game for a while and I havent been able to find a single head on this boat the whole time! Is it because they are transparent?Where are they???????? I gotta go!!! (And the crew has wondered why the old man has been grumpy!! ARGH! :arrgh!:

The only thing I spotted after 2 hours of play is the watchmen to the right of you on the bridge. You can see the horizon faintly through his head. I have the fog off and none of my crew faded at all. Other than that I have had no other issues.

I'm using a 6800 GS. I see the transparent crew heads on the watch tower. Turning off EE ends the transparency. Fog on or off makes no difference. I will probably leave the EE on as the see-thru heads aren't that big a deal.

I didnt see any the last two patrols, and this without fog, but with enviromental effects.

Hit ESC, select GRAPHICS OPTIONS and uncheck VOLUMETRIC FOG. While you will nolonger have volumetric fog, your crew will nolonger become transparent.
Cheers. |

I have been getting it since I got the game. Was really hoping 1.2 would fix it. Maybe 1.3 will. sigh. I think I would rather deal with it than turn off evironmental effects.

Environmental Effects produces only very little transparency on deck crew, hardly noticeably. Volumetric Fog do more transparency on deck crew.
A good mission to test this out is the quick mission "Against all Odds", because it has volumetric fog right from the start. This bug affected all deck crews, also the ones on ships. Yesterday evening I have experiment with this fault and gave the fog a red color through the volumetric fog shader. Transparency appears when the pixel color of the fog texture overlap the pixel color of a crew skin but not if it overlap the pixel color of the sub skin. So this might have it source in the material property of the models. |
Sounds like you are onto something Seeadler. I was thinking this was implemented to maintain FPS.
