Just me, or does the HQ in patch 1.2 look MUCH brighter than before?

I'd played a campaign or two through in an S-boat with 1.1, transferring ports and everything, and the HQ always looked the same - somewhat sepia-toned, afternoon sun look, etc.

Now, it's...I dunno...very bright. Like the gamma is cranked or something. Looks kinda silly.

Just my system, or is anyone else seeing this?

SteamWake 04-18-07 11:07 AM

Indeed everything seemed brighter. Which to me is a good thing.

ATI card here.

I'm seeing the same thing. At first I thought I changed the gamma setting, but checked and saw that I hadn't. Very different from the rest of the graghic screens!

Ati card here as well.

Brighter and my mouse does not lag in the office:up: Being as I do not spend time there much, the place looks fine to me.

ATI card:yep:

DITO :D

ATI card too.:hmm:

I think it used to have the same post-processing filters as the sub interior, but they've removed it so it looks a lot less foggy.

As a side effect, the FPS in the HQ is much better (it used to be sluggish for me to navigate) :p

nVidia here

Nvidia 7600 GT - much improved.

The game is simply beautiful now, and actually better performing, however buggy.

XanderF 04-18-07 01:08 PM

Hmm...guess I'm the only one who liked it the old way better.

Agreed - it looked like it had the sub interior post-processing effect on it before, and doesn't now. That's probably exactly what the change was.

Framerate was never a problem either way - but, then, I have a pretty powerful system, so...it's a shame the option was taken away.

What are you doing spending that much time in the office anyhow. Get out there and sink something !

Unless maybe they increased the default gamma setting with the patch.

I don't think it's the gamma. Gamma only lighten or darkens the image. This is cleaner, clearer colour. I thought the portraits on the crew management screen looked "cleaner" too.

All I can say and I stated above, my mouse moves freely and I can bounce from screen to screen without issue.

Hawk, this is the SHVI forum, not "pong" forum. You should know better!:p

Definitly brighter, colours are cleaner and crisper too... it no longer looks like the whole place is filled with cigar smoke and ash on every surface.:D

LOL - well, it would certainly be fair to argue that, in the 1940s, during a global war, in the military, IN A WAR ZONE, it would certainly be a lot more appropriate to look "filled with cigar smoke and ash on every surface".

Anyway, it looked more hazy/dusty to me thank smoky, which seemed fairly appropriate for a Pacific Island base before a/c was commonplace.

In any case, I really don't like the colors. I have a DVI-based LCD, which handles "true" colors quite accurately, and it's very obviously the palette chosen for that room was presuming the post-processing filter in place. The phone, for example, is especially irritating. The detailing on the body is just SO high contrast without the filter blurring it, it looks rather unrealistic.

To be honest the "office" is the ugliest thing in the game. I'm never in there long. ;)

I love Pong:D. The graphics set up was so easy and the hardware so cheap.

True, the older version did add a certain atmosphere to the office. Reminded me alot of those film-noire "private eye" movies, with the guy sitting at his desk with a trenchcoat and puffin' away in the darkness.:|\\
