British sailors to be freed

http://news.ninemsn.com.au/article.aspx?id=256473

breaking news it seems. pardoned implies they were charged formally with a crime, thatd be interesting...

STEED 04-04-07 08:28 AM

As expected end to the non-crisis.

Sailors released followed the quiet release of 3 iranian diplomats held by the USA in Iraq (which is probably what triggered the crisis in the first place).

About time they were released and all. Glad it was able to be done through non-violent means too.

It's usually not my habit to feed the trolls, but....

Did you notice you called it a "non-crisis" AND a "crisis" in, what, two lines of text? Nice job on that.

Also, Had their been any other outcome to this event, I believe you, as a supporter of Iran against America, would have begun to really, really understand exactly what the word "Crisis" means. You should be as thankful as I am that the Iranian government made the smart call here.

Have a nice day.

God knows what will come of the UK with all you PC libleral do gooder types.
You should know that us troop sign up to serve Queen and country knowing that at some point we might have to put are lives on the line. This is a fact. It's the job we signed up for. Plane and simple.

Who are you talking to?

mr chris 04-04-07 01:06 PM

Read the first line of my post and you will find out.;)

Enigma 04-04-07 01:09 PM

Well, that doesn't tell me much. If theres one thing i've learned around here it's that one mans hawk is another mans dove.

Not important, no worries.

mr chris 04-04-07 01:16 PM

To norrow it down i bit i was getting at the people that wet themselfs as soon as one soildier gets killed and yells we should not be at war this is all wrong. These are type of people that make me sick. People need to know that people are working hard out there so they can live there nice easy life in comfort. As i said before its what we signed up for. a bit of surport would not go amiss.
I just find it sad that we have become a country full of liberal do gooders who would rather bury there heads in the sand and hope the bad people just go away.

I presume it wasn't a crisis of any sort as far as you were concerned because you weren't one of those taken captive :hmm:

Yeah that'd be right

Well, at the risk of taking this thread way off topic, (we probably already have, so I dont want to get into a whole debate...but..)...I think everybody understands that soldiers can and will die in combat. I think alot of people dont feel that american or british forces need to be there in the first place. Especially here in the US, alot of people feel a bit cheated. They dont view the war as a neccesity, and therefore dislike the idea of troops being sent into harms way without it being absolutly neccesary.

Again, I want to avoid hijacking this thread (too late! doh!), so if you want to discuss further via PM or on another thread, i'd be glad to.

Let me try to bring this thread back to its original topic by saying that regardless of anybosys politics, having these folks come home safe and without bloodshed is a good end to a bad event. Im glad it's over.

gnirtS 04-04-07 02:00 PM

A very large % of troops here are against the iraq war and related deployments purely as they dont see it as having anything to do with defending the UKs interests home or abroad.

Troops in legitimate wars defending the interests of the country are fine. Troops going into dubious wars based on lies and misleading with no purpose other than political means is a totally different matter.

This is very good news.

Does anyone think the deployment of USS Nimitz to the Gulf could have made the difference; three carriers and their respective cruisers, destroyers, and submarines in the region?
