The constructive criticism thread

To be fair this thread should be established. If you have anything to contribute this will be the place to place it. 'Code' may be usefull for the folks at UbiSoft.

I'm wondering if the game does not support widescreen LCD monitors. What do you think?

Ducimus 03-19-07 07:21 PM

You dont' read sticky posts very much do you?

Well, currently there is an uproar on the resolution issue. In my view Waste Gate is looking to find a possible answer to the very first major issue that has spurned over 5 pages in another thread. The sticky is a lot of information on a lot of stuff. I find this issue baffling myself. One hopes we find a answer on this issue in a constructive conversation.

That was the spirit of this thread's creation. Thanks AVGWarhawk

I hope SH4 will have full support of widescreen LCDs to make SH4 shine without jaggies!

I hope so also for those that have spent money on them. I do not have a widescreen because everything looks stretched to me. This includes the widescreen TV. I just don't get why they did this to some TV's. Also, the higher resolution might be a crisper picture but how do you read all the small guages and buttons? I run all my games at 1024x768.

stabiz 03-19-07 07:36 PM

Widescreen wont cure any jaggies, but higher resolutions WILL make them less glaring. They are still there though. SH3 in 1600x1200 with FSAA and AF at full blast look stunning, even by todays standards. SHIV sadly does not. (Yes, I am basing this on screenshots, I dont have the game)

Look at this one, for instance, it looks awful:

I'm kind of in your corner there Stabiz. The screenshots always looked muddled to me and not quite as crisp as SH3. I think widescreen is the issue here on this. Just my thoughts. Then again all screens might have issues. Something just never seemed right with the screenshots.

I do not have the game either.

Yes, I can see your point. Generally speaking, I like the higher resolution in simulations because I can easier identify far away objects at better detail. I am lucky owner of a Dell2407 and I very much enjoy it! I would be very happy to see SH4 in true 1920x1200 on my 24 Inches screen. That would be just great!

If I run IL2 in high resolution it give me a headache attempting read dials and see far off dots. Perhaps the widescreen is stretching the game to fit. I really do not know:hmm:

Ducimus 03-19-07 07:47 PM

There is already a thread on this issue, which is more aptly named i might add.

Lets cut the crap. He's dissappointed and pissed off because the game didnt meet his expectations out of the box. So now he's raising a big F'ing stink about it because he's angry. Come on, The "do not buy SH4 Thread UbiSoft Sucks!!" ?!

I've seen that crap alot in other games, what it really means is, "im pissed off, im personally insulted, and im going to try and make ubi loose money. That'll show em! Disappoint me will they!"

Hmm, I dont have IL2 but I own Falcon4AF and I think in F4 1600x1200 is much more superiour than 1024x768. In F4AF you do not have problem reading the dials. There are different sets of 2D artwork depending on resolution. Its easy to see the mig in 1600x1200 but with 1024x768 you are having much harder time...

Anyway, F4 is quite old and this is about the modern build simulation SH4. I think we will see what it brings us very soon! I hope for the best!

I hope we are wrong and some option switch was not hit or checked for widescreens or any screens for that matter. I plan on getting the game and see what I see. Besides, let the modder have at it. The original SH3 hit my shelf in about a month. I have not stopped playing it since GWX fiddle with it.

Maybe so but perhaps that is out of his system and we are ready to get down to business on a resolve. The original thread has one individual with pictures of the issue. I believe we need some more and suspect we will see them in the coming days. I'm disappointed for those really looking forward to high resolution and it was not delivered as promised. I'm hoping the original poster with pics did not hit a option button or check a box in option to resolve the bad pictures.

Anyway, you got me sailing aroung Africa and I need to finish that patrol!

stabiz 03-19-07 08:03 PM

Yes, but GWX came 2 years after release.:rotfl:

I am buying this game too, but not in the current(?) state. I dont want to ruin the experience by being forced to overlook alot of stuff.

I am sure it will be mega-awesome after some modding, though.

Q: VikingGrandad: Are any of the existing SH4 preview screenshots and movies taken directly from the actual game, or are they enhanced/CGI?
A: SH4 uses post processing for a cinematic feeling, and that uninformed viewer may think at first those screenshots are edited. The game looks indeed as good, though of course all screenshots and footage released are work in progress.
