FYI: Warez

Hi!

The next one who posts a link to a warez site or admits that he or she has downloaded a warez version of SH4 wins a free fourteen-day trip to the Subsim brig.

I'd say it's harsh but fair!

CCIP 03-18-07 08:22 AM

That little? :dead:

I think that's a light penalty for what's basically the biggest violation of forum rules that you can get. Plus very bad taste before the official release date!

For the Record...

Subsim Policy On Warez

"SUBSIM Review has a longstanding policy against software piracy. We do NOT allow discussion or even mention of warez, abandonware, peer-to-peer game swapping, illegal download sites, or rip-off websites. Nothing will get you banned faster than pointing people to illegal software distribution sites. Don't ask for serial numbers, manuals, or cracks. Any admission that you have in your possession illegal software can and usually will result in revocation of your Radio Room forum account. Support computer game programmers buy legally purchasing their work. They have to eat too, you know."

After reading it I have to say that a 14 day visit to the brig is actually a quite mild punishment.;)

Hereīs what I wrote in another thread last year:
http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/show...39&postcount=5

Itīs none of our business what you do with your copy of SH3 at home. But this is a private forum and there are forum rules. And they make perfect sense!

Over the years Neal has built up very good relationships to numerous developers and publishers. They know that Subsim is a reputable forum, they know that there is a zero-tolerance policy regarding cracks, they trust Neal and the forum. This has advantages for the whole community. They listen to our feedback, and Neal gets feedback from them.

It would seriously harm those relationships if Neal would allow people to posts links to cracks. He will never allow that, not without a written permission of the publishers.

If you now say "Hey, I didnīt even say that it should be allowed to post links to cracks" please donīt forget that basically every time someone even mentions a crack thereīs the question "Where can I get it?", or this person will contact the poster via PM. Do we know what he will do with the crack? No. Perhaps heīll then makes copies of SH3 for his friends after he got the crack. Perhaps not. That alone is reason enough not to allow this.

So in conclusion: Donīt discuss cracks here. Please.

Because they are illegal. Tho, in SHIIIīs case, I find that the crack isnt really that bad as ubi decided to drop the SF but didnt release tools to get rid of it.

SubSim's policy in regards to all forms of software piracy is 'zero-tollerance'. Ultimately, one must understand that this is a private forum, and that these are the rules of the forum's owner. We have developers and software engineers who regularly visit the forum, and this is how SubSim.com is able to get the inside story with such frequency. Naturally, we want this to continue, so the discussion piracy, which is very harmful to the producers of these simulations, is banned by the forum rules. Simply stated, abide by them, or get out. In regard to this particular issue [piracy], there is no compromise.

ok np, was just curious

thanks for the explanation

simsurfer 03-18-07 01:10 PM

Since were on the topic can someone explain to me this; If I goi out and buy the game which I am btw, and install it then later deside I would rather be able to play the game without having to load the DVD into my drive, how is it bad for me to ask on the forums if anyone knows of a No CD or No DVD "c" word?

The file is not really a "c***k" because in order to use it you have to have the game in the first place. If we were to call it a NoDVD file, would that be ok??

It doesnīt matter what you call it, itīs not allowed to discuss cracks/NoDVD files or to ask for them. We have a zero-tolerance policy, we mentioned that twice already in this thread.
